Dodge Viper ACR sets new Nürburgring lap time of 7:12....
Well, it did not take long for someone to respond to the LFA Nurburgring Edition's time of 7:14.64. No mention of what type of tires yet. I wonder if the Lexus team will make another attempt at the record?

Dodge Viper ACR sets new Nürburgring lap time of 7:12…and some change
Chrysler's SRT team went to the Nürburgring today with one mission — to kick the ever-living crap out of the Lexus LFA and the Corvette ZR1. They succeeded. The 2010 Dodge Viper ACR set a new major automaker production car (excluding artisanal automakers like Gumpert and Radical) record run of the Nordschleife in just 7:12 and change.
And we've got an exclusive set of pictures of the record run below.
In 2008 the Dodge Viper ACR went to the Ring and established a major automaker production car one lap record time of 7:22.1 on the Nürburgring, a record that stood until 2011. This summer the Corvette ZR1 came to the Ring with new Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires and beat the Viper record, laying down a blazingly fast 7:19.6. Even more recently, the $400,000 special Nürburgring Edition Lexus LF-A set down a blazingly faster time of 7:14.6.
With no 2011 model year Vipers being built, SRT turned to Tomball Dodge who supplied two brand-new 2010 Dodge Viper ACR's off of their showroom floor. Mintgen Motorsport, a well-known automotive shop based just a few miles from ze Nürburgring helped provide local logistics and garage support.
Right now we only have the word of SRT. There's no video of the record 'ring run yet. Nor do we know exactly what that "change" is — so we'll have to wait until the results are made official. We'll have the specifics as soon as we get them in our grubby li'l hands.
Oh, and also, the SRT folks brought along a Dodge Viper ACR-X, which tore up the track with a stunning 7:03..and change. Those coy bastards.

1 - Dodge Viper has long been out of production so what is the point here??
2 - There is no official confirmation.
3 - I think Lexus proved what they had to with the Nurburgring edition and what it was capable of. I am sure they hopefully don't feel the need to participate in this rat race now.
4 - If anything, they need to pay attention to the issues of the standard LFA and the new updated IS-F - namely, much like Ferrari firing Bridgestone and hitting the door in the *** of Bridgestone for such shoddy job on those tires of these two cars. The IS-F performance deteriorated with the RE050A even with the new suspension updates compared to the older version with the Michelin PS2 tires.

LOL @ you LFA followers... You guys made ENDLESS threads about your success and here come the SRT boys, what did it take 2 weeks? lol. Guys honestly, no need to be so sour, there will always be a better. Those Viper's came off a SHOWROOM therefor they do have a possibility of being sold to the public. Meaning its a street legal production car.
I'd still take an LFA allllllllll day and twice on sunday over any viper, including the ACR.

Why are these SRT threads being made here in the LFA forum rather than the general?? What am I missing here??
If this were true, especially considering the car has been out of production for two years, it is nothing but a desperate attempt to get publicity and media attention on the back of the LFA record.
If Lexus was looking for the quickest time, the first thing they would have done would have been slapping some proper R compound tires like many of the other cars rather than doing it on full high trear rating street tires, but there was never any intention of setting any records.

i looked at this thread yesterday and decided to keep it here in the lfa forum. as mentioned, the article stated it's mainly trying to break the lfa record so that somewhat makes it lfa related. just because the car isn't lfa doesn't make it irrelevant, there are plenty of non-lfa cars and information mentioned in this forum.
please let the discussion continue in a constructive manner
