What tires did the Gumbert use? it's got 140 more horsepower as well. The LFA is ridiculous fast around track to keep pace with and beat cars outpowering it by 15%.

Despite the drag from the huge wing and aero parts, hitting 298 km/h shows Lexus LFA is underrated from the factory.

The reason why the standard LFA has not got its due, is because of the tires and its ability to put the power down most efficiently (or the lack thereof).

It was confirmed now by Chris Harris and AutoWeek.NL who both confirmed that the LFA 'ring edition RE70 tire grip is just unbelievable. They are one of the best high grip street tires out there today.

Remember the Mt Fuji battle? we thought the wing was slowing the LFA down on the highspeed sections of the track, and that is clearly not the case as proven here.

Yeah, MotorTrend's "Best Driver's car of the year" is the other example.

They needed to show that the standard LFA is not too far behind either even if it turns out to be 7:21 - 7:23 on those super mediocre S001 tires.
I've been seeing comments to the tunes of "so it takes a highly modded LFA to beat the GT-R" on many other forums already.

Come on Lexus, set the records straight!

Stupid argument. You can easily flip the script. The GT-R needs an intelligent AWD system, double clutch gearbox, and an Formula 1 driver to beat exotics on the Nurburgring.

Yup these are from guys that can't afford either car but saying for $400k they rather have several GTRs. LFA's market is people who buy expensive cars for fun, not because they've got limited options.

silly internet.

Before, it used to be "LFA is going to be slower than the R8". Now that it is the quickest car on earth, it becomes a "modified" car. LOL.

I remember how everyone used to call BS on when the chief engineer would get pressed by journalists to give a lap time and the chief engineer would reluctantly admit that "Nurburgring laps under 7:20" and people used mock him.

I guess, haters are going to hate no matter what.

The difference between LFA and LFA Nurburgring according to chief engineer is only 7 seconds. That still puts the standard LFA in 7:21 - 7:22 region.

I wish they would have done that as well.

p.s. Remember, even the Nurburgring edition wears the RE70 tires that used to be OEM tires for the 2009 GTR, but Nissan dropped these tires in the 2011 update for more "grippier" Dunlop DSST GT Maxx 600 tires.

The tires on the Nurb edition aren't 'some of the best'. The LFA is flaunting those tires. Just like it flaunts the S001's on the 'standard' LFA. It's all car. The tires are modest in comparison. These aren't any Michelin SuperSports. RE070's come on cars like the S2000 clubsport. Not Ferrari Italia's or Lamborghini SV's, ya know? It's them damn dynamics this car has, not a single car holds a candle to the way this thing drives. Even Chris Harris and EVO magazine agree. This is the 'standard' LFA on S001's. Their performance car of the year article stated the LFA was on another level. Nothing felt as special. No Porsche, no Lambo, no Ferrari. People need to recognize.
