The #51 LFA had to have an engine change due to 'foreign contaminants' discovered in its fuel. For a while there it was thought to be out of the race for good, but came back.

Indeed!!! Akio Toyoda didn't drive this year, due to publicity reasons, but they had superbly capable race drivers like Akira Iida.

Yes, they had some 33 entries out of the 197 entered this year, and in different classes. The Porsche hybrid was on track to win the overall rankings but had problems at the end and didn't finish, IIRC.

Would have been nice to see the Supra HV-R that won the tokachi 24 go up against the Porsche.

Top 20 result overall, class win. Nice improvement. Congratulations.

Now configure one in full GT2/GT1 race trim and send it off to LeMans next year please.

According to Gazoo's website this isn't the end of the LFA in racing. So whether that means they'll challenge more Nurburgring races or challenge different sports car racing is up for debate. I think they are planning in racing the rest of the season of VLN though, which is Nurburgring races.

I wonder what domestic contaminants look like. Would they be better if they were JDM?

Congrats Lexus! Class win and 19th overall is an excellent showing in a difficult format where luck is every bit as important as preparation.

Indeed, lol. Quoting from memory of the live race blog may have been a bit inaccurate, here is what they said:

The pit crew, support personnel definitely worked a lot for the 24 hours race, their hard work paid off. Can only imagine what an engine swap on the LFA during the heat of competition must've been like.

The 24h SP8 winner awards held by some of the tired but ecstatic drivers:

The #51 racer had the 11 hour absence, and it placed much lower. The #50 car was running throughout the race, with only regular pit stops, it was the SP8 class winner, and placed 19th among 197 overall.
