I really think Lexus should have made this a 600 hp car and made about 1000 of these instead of 500.

Brilliant suggestions. I would also add a price tag inside the stratosphere

So is there an official ring time (with source) for the production car?

The car sounds so hardcore. Brilliant motor. It sounds like an F1 car

If Lexus wanted to be a ultra exclusive ultra super car like a McLaren F1, Enzo, Veyron, CCX, etc then why did they give it just supercar power? They should have made this a 625-650 hp car and I bet you there would have been much less complaint about the price. I just get it, why would they put just 550 hp to a $400k car and only make 500 of them. Why not give it 700 hp and sell it for $500k then?

I agree that the car is totally underpowered for its "class". HP/weight is great but fore this type of money it becomes a hp war . Doesn't the CTS-V have like 556 hp. The viper, bentley continental, Ferrari 599 GTB, and Murcielago SV all have more power. They really needed to step up to that price tag a bit stronger in the HP department

The car makes 115hp per liter. 552hp at 4.8 liters....

How the HELL is that underpowered? I believe only the 458 Italia is in this same area.

There are a number of Ferraris in the 120 hp/liter class. 115/liter is nothing special for specific output. Even the 360 Modena makes 111 hp/liter, the 360 Stradale's at 118/liter.

Besides, specific output is academic. Honda guys have been using this excuse for years every time they've lost to a domestic...

The car needs to have at least 600+hp to be in the same insane realm as the other 400k cars. Relative to other cars in its class its underpowered (Pagani Zonda, Lamborghini 670 SV, ferarri 599,...even the Bentley Continental have 600+ hp.) For the entrance fee and all of the exclusivity 600 was an obvious target imho. I am sure they could have extracted another 50 hp from the motor by simply making it a 5 liter V10. If they are going all out and producing a supercar then we need supercar hp figures, not just lap times

To clarify .........the car is RELATIVELY underpowered

i am curious. making it a 500 production automatically makes the lfa an "ultra exclusive ultra super car", and can only be put together with mclaren, enzo, veyron, ccx? suddenly the lfa has to go against million dollar cars? man, it's really hard for me to catch up with all these

mclaren v12, enzo v12, veyron quad turbo v16, why the lexus v10 is put against them?

if lexus makes a 400k car and people are stabbing them for being so "expensive" (really, regardless of the car, performance, power, etc... just coz' it's a lexus), i can't even start to imagine what people are going to say if lexus directly came out with a 600k car (again, regardless of power, performance, etc...)

yup, i will never understand

lets not get hung up on hp/lietr. The Honda S2000 gets 120 hp/liter. BFD> we wanted 300 hp from the S2000 like we want 600 from the LFA. Its just what the other kids in the sand box are rocking. If you are the new kid on the block then you need to make a name for yourself. Kicking the door in with 650 hp...... now thats an entrance

Like I said before no matter what I celebrate this car as a great achievement and for its performance. I just wish it made more of a splash on paper for the price

Imagine a 700 hp AWD mid engined LFA with 0-60 times less than 3 seconds, mid engined lines and styling. That would have shut us all up, including the crew at Top Gear

Well add the Carrera GT and 599 GTB in there too. Those are similarly priced as the LF-A and yet have more hp and they were introduced much eariler. Its not about how many cylinders the engine has, and from the pricing and number of cars they will build, it seems to be they did mean for the LF-A to be a very exclusive car.

so let me get this right. Mentioning hp per liter is "hung up" on it? What about the neatherthal "peak horsepower" arguement? If the car had 800 hp some of you would say "oh it's short of the bugatti"

I've never read so many disparaging remarks about a supercar before. Especially from people who have not BEGUN to read about this car outside price/peak hp/ 0-60.

why not give it 2000hp and sell it for 900k. Or 200hp and sell for 50k
