NX Advertised Cargo Capacity

Hi Lexus USA.

I suspect the stated 17.6 cu ft advertised cargo is beneath the tonneau cover since this value matches the 500L volume advertised in Europe where they measure it from the top of the seat (i.e. tonneau cover) downward.

We have in Europe today:

X3 = 550 L or 19.4 cu ft
Q5 = 540 L or 19.0 cu ft
NX = 500 L or 17.6 cu ft

As a Lexus enthusiast, my concern with the stated 17.6 cu ft in the US is that Audi and BMW in the US are not publishing the Euro specs, but the full cargo volume to the ceiling (X3=27.3 cu ft); (Q5=29.1 cu ft). Buyers who are "paper shopping" may easily dismiss the NX based on this low stated capacity without ever even seeing the (bigger) cargo in person which I estimate to be at least 25+ cu ft. From ownership of three RXs and now the NX, I can vouch with certainty the NX is not 2+ times smaller in cargo than the RX's 40 cu ft (which is measured from ceiling to floor behind the rear seats). I go through this in more detail here. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/nx-...ml#post8910178

In short, I'm looking to help bring visibility on the misleading cargo spec, with no legal interests whatsoever - my wish is for Lexus to update the current figure in line with how the competition is measuring and stating it in the US. :thumbup:

Thanks for acknowledging my post!

Update.

I've purchased 9 bags of mulch today and proves two things.

1. Lexus' claimed 17.6 cu ft volume is beneath the tonneau cover (as I've stated prior).
2. NX's total cargo behind the rear seats is approx 28 cu ft! :thumbup:

Please see thread for more details: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/nx-...the-mulch.html

Again, my only interest is for Lexus to consider updating the advertised cargo capacity to the actual numbers, and not the near-Lexus-CT-sized cargo volume of 17.6 cu ft! Thanks!

Great post! The change would definitely put the specs on par with the German competitors (as it rightfully should be)

The 2016 Cargo specs still show 17.6 cu ft on Lexus.com. I still see in the NX forum additional potential customers ruling out the NX on this spec alone.

Please advise.

Good looking out corrado. In addition to needlessly advertising less space than there is, I feel like a few more cu ft could've been achieved by making the area 1 inch deeper. There's a whole bunch of wasted space underneath because of the angled spare tire.
