Default Sirius in '94 ES

Hey, I just recently ordered Sirius receiver that has FM modulation but I heard the sound is better if you hardwire it into the radio (I'd rather do that anyway). I ordered the Audiovox SRS receiver. Does anybody know if it's possible to hook it up to a factory '94 headunit? It's not a Levinson, that's about all I know about it.

Thanks,
Jay

The only way you can use this Sirius is through FM modulation since there isn't an adapter to connect to your '94 headunit directly. You'll have to buy the car adapter kit.

Thanks. Do you know where I can find anymore info on the '94 system specs and headunit?

Thanks,
J

I wouldn't buy the Audiovox unit in the first place. The guy who sold me mine says the kenwood reciever sounds much better. I have mine hooked up through FM Modulation. It sounds pretty darn good.

The guy who sold you the Kenwood said that only because he gets more commission for selling Kenwood. There is no audible difference whenever you use RF modulation, and since both are Sirius, it doesn't affect the subscription quality.

janko10, there isn't "advertised" specifications for the OEM equipment, though there is a changer port, and the changer was based on Pioneer's discontinued (& noisy) 6-disc changer, M30. You won't find any support for that anymore.

I paid $79.00 for the Kenwood. The Audiovox head unit was $99. I don't see how the sales rep made more money on the Kenwood.

Damn that sucks.

So what are my options? Try to find a newer Lexus head to fit in there or just get a new aftermarket head all together? I didn't wanna do that cause it won't look right with such a small headunit in that huge space.

It's all dependent on the product margin. Even if the Kenwood is cheaper, as long as the margin is bigger than the Audiovox unit, he still made more money from the Kenwood.

If you go with an aftermarket headunit, there is a kit available from Metra that will eliminate all those gaps, plus you'll get a pocket also. I've installed an Alpine into a '93 before. It won't look "luxurious" with the kit, but it does fit nicely. Here is the PDF version of the kit.
