Did you wire the mute, or does the 00 button line up with the mute behind it?

How is the display held in place?

How do you get behind the clock? I haven't ordered the shop manuals yet...

I totally want to do this...

It's a stroke of luck that the mute button of the display lines up directly behind the clock button. You just have to play with the push distance.

It's been a while since i did the install, but I think it was was just a squeeze fit. You could always put a dab of silicone glue. For all I know that's what I did.

You can pry it out carefully from the sides using a screwdriver. You might wanna put something to protect the dash from the screwdriver, like a credit card, etc. be careful not to dent the plastic with the screwdriver blade too.

I'm gonna have to dig up my pictures.of the install. Its been a while and a lot harder to explain in words than pictures.

I look forward to those...

getting the panel out was easy thanks to your credit card suggestion...tho i now have small dents in my student ID.

you must have made substantial modifications to the board the clock is mounted to, unless you removed it completely, along with the fasten seat belt lights.

then you must have made the opening larger as well, since the existing one is barely larger than the clock digits...

then you must have had to shorten both the button and its housing...

this is more of an experience in shop class than a diy...

Ahhh Your comments are now giving me flashbacks of what I did to "make" it fit.

If you have a Dremel, then you basically just cut anything out that gets in your way.

I believe I salvaged the circuit board to get the seatbelt light to work, but I gutted out the clock side. After cutting out the neccessary plastic, the Remote display fit in there pretty good.

You have only scratched the surface though on the "challenges" of this install. I might as well tell you that I took off the front clear plastic shield so that I could get at the front of the bezel in order to cut the clock opening bigger.

It's not a simple DIY, but it sounds like you have the ability to figure out stuff, so good luck.

I'll post pics if I find them and depending on what questions you have along the way.

BTW, I prefer you and others continue to ask questions on this thread, because I end up repeating myself when I get PM's all the time.

This way I only have to say it once.

Thanks

Yes, I know where they are, but the PC they are on is currently dead.

I am not on the forums that much right now, due to other priorities, but I'll post here whenever I can get that PC back up and running.

As long as you have subscribed to this thread, you'll find out when I have made that update.

Thanks

Just a bump to see if you got the PC resurrected and accessed the pics.

I'm off to the garage to do a temporary hardwiring job...

Well the PC with all the pics was having problems so I couldn't grap the files. Now we just moved, and hooking it back up hasn't been a priority, since we have 3 laptops now.

I DON'T want to loose those pics plus a ton of other stuff.

Due to many other priorities, I probably won't be able to post pics for atleast a month.

Shoot me a PM as a reminder if I don't post in the next 3 or 4 weeks.

Sorry,
but there's just too many things going on for me right now.

Anyone know if lasers are used by any law enforcement authorities in CALI ? I 'm thinking of just keeping the laser detection mode disabled and mount the unit in the rear.

i got busted by a laser from a moto cop in orange county. I was bummed that ididnt have a detector but then i realized it was lazer so it wouldnt have mattered anywyas

I do remember taking a bunch of pics of the fabrication.

I just need to pull the files off the hard drive and get them to a workable PC.

I hope one of these days soon.

Sorry All, but Stay Tuned.

My Escort 8500 X50 picks up Laser, it has actually saved my *** hundreds if not thousands of dollars in speeding tickets haha. I personally recommend Escort over any other brand
