In MY13+ cars with navi or color screen you have the option to receive text messages on your car that will pop up with a chime and read them back to you if you select read.

ive seen a lot of folks frustrated on this issue with text messages not working and the option grayed out. heres how to enable the feature.

go to text message on your phone screen on your car, it may say "waiting for device to load message skip or wait" .............it never does or shows up blank. from there WITH THAT SCREEN OPEN go to your iPhone >

iPhone - go to settings >

settings menu - select Bluetooth >

Bluetooth settings - scroll down under registered devices, look for "CAR MULTIMEDIA", "LEXUS IS/GS/LS/LX/RC/NX/ES/RX/GX", "CAR M-MEDIA" or whatever it says is connected but more than likely one of the above, >

to the right of the car name, click on the " I " icon (information) >

select "SHOW NOTIFICATIONS" make sure its on >

now, turn off your phone, "slide to power off" >

wait till you see the phone status icon show "disconnected" with a red line through the phone icon >

push the "PWR-VOLUME" **** IN on your car, keep holding it in till you see the screen go black and the boot screen pop back up "the L logo" >

restart your phone >

*text messages are enabled now on your iphone. please note that previous messages will not load. have a friend confirm the system is working by sending you a message. all texts from here on out will pop up on your screen.

the reason that ive found thus far as to why iPhone text messages don't automatically load when initially pair with the car is because iPhones are high security iOS systems, and they think the system is being compromised. this workaround tricks the firmware and allows messages.
