Default Sub Woofer

I just installed a new sound sysetem in my 1992 SC400.
I put in an Alpine head unit and changer.
I also added an Alpine 150 Wat amp for the sub.
However, my sub needs to be replaced.
Does anyone know of a good free air subwoofer that will fit in the stock location.
I did not want to have to replace it with a boxed unit.

I installed a Kicker Comp 10" in the factory location and it sounded great. However, I lost my fuel guage. I could'nt for the life of me figure this out until I took speaker out and guage starting working. I kept putting speaker right by sending unit in tank and the guage would fail. I can't figure it out.

TG... did the magnet on the JL IB4 clear the gas tank? was it just a drop in replacement?

ttgoodrich,

Did you have to cut or drill or did it fit in the factory location?
Also, are you using the stock system or aftermarket?
Finally, how much was it?

Thanks,

Nate

You will have to raise iabout an inch or so to clear the gas tank. Just use wood and cut a ring.
I have an Alpine 7894 head unit with infinty kappa perfect speakers and a v12 amp.

tggoodrich,

Doesn't raising it an inch mean it'll be well over the rear deck? can the original grill fit back in?
Any other drawbacks by having the sub 1 inch over the rear desk clearance (plane of surface )?

nope, there is plenty of room to raise it 1.5" or so w/out it hitting the grill. I can't think of any cons to it.
