Default GS 350 ML, replacement?

My ML with nav & dvd headunit keeps shutting off on it's own at varying times. It's becoming more frequent with the hotter weather. I'm out of warranty so a dealer fix is not an option.

Has anyone replaced the ML headunit? Any suggestions? Any problems I'd potentially run into? I've read that the a/c unit is somehow tied into the deck.

I'll prob pull out the rest of the ML system and replace it all with aftermarket, components and amps along with a single din.

sounds like alot of work.. try sending the headunit and or amp to united radio for a repair.. they offer a free estimate.. if u dont like the price they'll just ship your stuff back.. if they repair it they also offer a warranty.. will be way cheaper than an aftermarket system

Unfortunately in this day and age an aftermarket setup would be much more difficult and probably more expensive than just repairing or replacing the stock unit. I don't remember if those have fans anywhere in that setup, the ML amps usually do, and a bad fan would definitely cause the audio to cut out, not sure about the radio controls.
