Hmmmm...Tv's...DVD player...Hmmm
I was browsing the DIY section of clublexus when i came upon the tutorial on installing the TV in the GS found here: https://www.clublexus.com/Informatio...S/LCD/lcd.html It has now inspired me to do tv's in my car. I found a 5" Color LCD with stand for $80 and a DVD/CD/MP3 player for $125. What do yall think?
the CD, DVD, MP3 thing you're talking about, is this like a stereo deck or an external thing? someone (EGainer, maybe) mounted an LCD into their visor, that'd be pretty sweet. if you're talkin stereo deck, $125 is pretty cheap, maybe a little too cheap. what brand/model number?
with a little bit of effort, you could decode the wire colors plugged into the back of the stock stereo deck and you could just splice your aftermarket deck into those wires and keep all the factory wiring. That way you'd get to use the cheap factory amp in the Lex and not have to rely on the deck to produce all the power. if you wanted to be hard core, though, you could re-run all the speaker wires and upgrade them from the 12/14 gauge crap OEM wiring to like 10/12 gauge Fostgate wiring (that'd be hella work though). there's been a lot of talk about wiring harnesses, but i don't recall anybody saying they definately had a fix on one that would work.
personally, the wiring will take care of itself. confusing, but not terribly difficult (if you decode the colors and splice into the aftermarket deck). I'd be more worried about the faceplate. the lexus faces (at least in my ES) is nice, smooth, black plastic, and most of the aftermarket deck surrounds are textured cheap plastic. it'd be a big contrast between the smooth and the textured, something to think about. there's also been a lot of talk about how to fix that. i've heard some people talk about a deck surround with a little pocket in it (for coins or something), you could try that.
lemme know about that deck, i'd be interested to hear where you found a DVD deck for 125.
good luck -

No, i am getting a 5" LCD monitor on a metal stand that im going to mount to the dash as seen in the DIY section for the GS. The DVD player is completely seperate from the TV.
Anyway i found out how to run the audio. An FM Modulator. All i have to do is run it inline with my antenna and tune the radio to a non used frequency (i.e. 88.1fm) It seems fairly easy. Below I have pictures of the products i am talking about.
