A properly designed sealed enclosure will give you better sound quality. If you're looking for higher bass output in a portion of the lower frequency band, the bandpass is more appropriate. There is generally a compromise in freq response flatness with a bandpass enclosure. Also depends on the acoustics of the interior, and what you're trying to attain sonically, given the type of music you listen to. For rap and dance music, a bandpass is often more appropriate, if you don't alternately listen to jazz and classical.

Careful on the bandpass thing: too many of them are 'one-note-wonders'....

ive had my share of boxes, list includes
one soundtech 15'' vented
one yamaha 15'' vented
two yamaha's 15's vented (same one as above just added another 15)
two jbl 12's vented
three audiobahn 10's bandpass
three audiobahn 12's sealed.

everytime i upgraded my enclosure, the speakers were better or more powerful, BUT i feel the bandpass i had def hit the hardest, however since the triple 12's sealed i have now is more powerful than that old bandpass i get more bass now.
the bass im talkin about is not sound quality, just sheer rattleing performance or spl.
i feel thoguh the sealed box i have now sounds realy good and clean.
id say go with a sealed

For best sound quality go with sealed. If the bandpass isn't designed properly it can sound pretty bad. Its also easier to mess up a bandpass box then a sealed box. Most of the bandpass boxes are listen to Hit hard but just didn't sound right to me. But then again I have only owned sealed myself.

How about a ported box? You lose a bit of SQ but the thump factor will be raised a bit.

But for overall sq, i'd stick with sealed enclosures.

I'd try a butterworth alignment.
