Default Aftermarket HU and aftermarket amp GS400

Im upgrading everything front speakers to 6.5" components, the HU, stock amp with a 2 ch. (not going to use rear door speakers) and subwoofer (powered off seperate amp).

I am going to run speaker wire from the amp straight to the x-overs so no speaker connection behind the HU.

I also have the crutchfield 87+ toyota wiring harness harness. From searching is the harness actually powering the factory amp and not the HU right or wrong? And if so what would be the process only powering the the HU?

what are you planning on doing with the HVAC controls? are they integrated into the head unit you're replacing?

lol he's saying that because he has the standard "lexus premium sound" which is made by pioneer (ie- NOT ML/Nak) he can use the stock climate control. only oem-navi cars have an integrated headunit/climate control. on all other 2GS/LS the climate controls and headunits are separate.

damnit, is there no way to replace the head unit on the mark levinson nav systems and still retain HVAC controls?

if this was anyway possible i would be eternally grateful to whoever tells me how to do this.
i want to replace my head unit with a tablet sooooooooo badly but i can't give up my AC since i live in CA and would die of heat exhaustion.

im not entirely sure what u mean.

but im pretty sure there is a way. all you want to do is keep the climate controls and get rid of the factory stereo? im sure ive seen plenty of people do it on here. i might be wrong though since a couple of people have said no

the AC controls like how strong and which vents etc all are controlled thru the nav screen.

i have the standard navigation with mark levinson so like if i want the air to blow on my feet at full power i hit the climate button along the side of the screen then the options pop up on the screen for me to choose.

while i can turn the ac off and on with dedicated buttons below the screen to choose any kind of option for how much power on the air or the direction etc all that has to be done on the actual touch screen.

so i have no idea how one would go about incorporating that into a new nav unit say for instance i wanted to replace it with a pioneer double din nav or even throw an android tablet in like a lot of people are doing these days.

I would assume you would have to come across a stand alone climate control from a non-nav system since it is a separate part from the stereo.

I have the same issue like you, i want to replace my oem HU because my ML amp is shot , i pulled it but it's connected to thr HVAC. The HVAC won't turn on without the HU.

I cheated this in my IS install. I just had to tuck the old changer portion behind the display of the HVAC panel. I didn't have NAV, so that would certainly be different. Mine works fine like it is though. Did the install nearly a year and a half ago. Still love the sound that I get with my current set up, even though I would like to upgrade to a high end 4ch amp for my doors..... Just finished building this box and haven't carpeted it yet, so no wise cracks! Lol.
