Default standard sub vs nakamichi?

How is the stock Nak sub compared to the sub in the stock audio system? Is it any stronger, deeper, cleaner? Will the Nak sub work with the standard stereo setup and amp? Does it change, depending on year? I've got a 96 SC4 with the standard stereo and was looking at changing over the sub to a Nak one.

I just replaced the Nak sub in my 93 SC4 today - it was nothin' special, pretty generic 4ohm 10in freeair sub, and it had stiffened up to the point where the cone would barely move - I had to save the outer ring of the old woof so the grille would still snap on the way it did before - that was a big job, took an hour or so with a die grinder to get the new speaker to fit inside the old one's ring - I cut the old speaker basket off the ring and scrapped the rest of the speaker, and inserted a Pioneer 10in and glued it into the old ring with silicone, it was a very tight fit going in, about 1/4 inch to spare over the plugs on the fuel tank and very close tolerance on the new speaker's connection strip, had to insulate it so it wouldn't short against the body. Replaced the rear fills too, with Pioneer oem replacements, one of the old ones was dead - the system sounds way way better now, with about $100 worth of speakers and a little noodlin' - by all means I have heard better, but this didn't cost five grand - -

If you buy a new replacement sub from Lexus, it will come with that fancy ring, and I bet it will be expensive - and there are just a few free air subs that are shallow enough to clear the tank - this Pioneer TS-W254F fit just right. Tight, but just right.

actually I was looking into possibly replacing my sub (a standard stereo system, not the nakamichi system) with a sub from the nakamichi system. im curious as to what benefits i would get from that, ie, louder, cleaner bass? would that even work with my current stock stereo amp? would it fit in place of my current sub?

my point is, if you get a used speaker it will probably be shot like mine was, and a new one from Lexus will be $$$, if you have a 10in sub now it may be the same speaker, I've been told the only part of the Nak system that's Nak is the power amp, everything else is Pioneer.

On the 96 LS which I had, all the speakers were branded Nakamichi. The Nak sub had much, much bigger magnet than the Premium system's Pioneer sub.

no way to really know with the oem speakers in my sc - very anonymous, generic stuff - power rating and impedance, no other marks.
