Default 1999 Lexus GS300 Stereo Upgrade

I recently upgraded the stereo in my 1999 Lexus GS300 with the stock Pioneer system without the navigation. The lcd screen stopped working on the factory Pioneer head unit so I got the Pioneer FH-P8000BT to replace it and the Sound Ordnance M-1350 amplifier to replace the factory amp. Overall, the install went pretty well once I got the car apart (Lexus really made this car as clean and seamless as they could). I used a Metra dash kit and a wire harness from Crutchfield.com. I made video unboxings of the products and post-installation videos that I put on YouTube. Check them out! They're really helpful and have a lot of info.

HEAD UNIT- Pioneer FH-P8000BT - It is a double DIN CD receiver with bluetooth hands free calling. You can connect and control your iPod or iPhone with the usb plug or you can connect other MP3 players via the auxiliary input. This unit is also capable of bluetooth music streaming from your cell phone. The install was a breeze with the wire harness that I got from Crutchfield.com. I got the FH-P8000BT from Amazon.com for about $250.

AMPLIFIER- Sound Ordnance M-1350 - It is a mono amplifier RMS x1 at 2 ohms. This amp looks good, sounds good, and has a lot of features. Plus, it comes with a 3-year warranty! I bought the amp at Crutchfield for about $90, although that was on sale. The regular price is about $130. I am using this amp with my stock Pioneer subwoofer and it sounds awesome. It was also very easy to install once I got my car apart. The wiring kit that I got is the JL Audio XD-ACS30. I needed to get a higher rated fuse though because the one that came with the kit was only 30 amps.

DASH KIT AND HARNESS- Metra 95-8152 Install Kit and Crutchfield Harness - The dash kit includes the directions to remove the factory head unit and install the new one. The wiring harness comes with a wiring diagram that you will use to connect it to the harness provided with the new head unit. The install went very smoothly and both products work flawlessly. With the wiring harness, you need to cut the grey wire from the factory harness and attach it to the red wire on the new head unit. This will allow the unit to be switched on with the 12 volts switched power wire. Other than that, you just plug the harness in and it works.

Default Subwoofer wire polarity

Patrick, I watched your great video. I notice your subwoofer wires are yellow with red, and another color. Do you know which is + and which is -? I am going to do something similar to what you did and need to be able to wire the sub correctly from the amp.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

I did an upgrade last weekend. Put i an AVH8400 and run the front/rear with that. Insteed of mounting the amplifier in the trunk i removed the cd changer and mounted a Rockford PBR 1x300 where the changer used to be, Its small but put out enough power.

Thanks I'm glad my video was of some help! The yellow wire with red stripes on it is connected to the negative terminal on the amplifier and the other wire (which should just be all black) is connected to the positive terminal. Good luck with your upgrade!

Yeah that was one possibility that I considered during my installation. I figured that I would keep that spot open for another amp to power the rest of the speakers if I were to ever upgrade those. Definitely a good option for the sub amp though!

Did you have to bypass the factory amp?
