4th order in 2nd gen GS - need ideas
I have a 1999 GS300
Looking for a balance of hard hitting bass, usable trunk, and sound control (no trunk rattles)
I at first went with a pair of rear firing JL Audio 10w3's in a sealed box.
I am not happy with it.
What I want is a 4th order box firing either through the ski pass or the factory subwoofer cutout.
Power is not a problem.
I currently have the following subs in my collection I could use or I could buy a driver.
if I were to buy something would prefer it to be just a single 12
I have
Pair of JL Audio 10w3v3
Single Alpine Typr-R 10
Pair of Skar ZVX 8's (I love these but the box size is huge for an 8)
Ideas, designs, pictures?
What have you done that works well?
What doesn't work right?

aha
It seems that we are in the same boat...I too want the same. I have a dd712 in a 2.0CUft3 box tuned to 35 Hz. Not impressed with sound quality or output considering what I paid for the sub.

Trying to get more bass into the car I cut out the leather over the ski port and removed all the insulation that was between the trunk and rear seat, I have more bass but now when my compressors run it is loud as f*k in the car.
I am working to figure out a 4th design.
i have found an online calculator to see if a subwoofer is good for a 4th
I ran all the ones I have and the Skar 8's are the best suited, followed by the Alpines.
I just got my car back from the shop yesterday so next step is to do some good measuring and figure out how much space I have to work with.
A 4th will def be the right way to go esp as I can then reseal the area behind the seat and quiet down my compressor noise.

Here is the calculator

You put in the specs it asks for and if the answer is 50 or lower the sub would work good in a 4th

I think you are much better off if you fire through the stock woofer hole. I built an offset sealed enclosure with an IDMAX 12. Not firing directly into the cabin means that you are relying on, and at the mercy of, whatever resonances are present in the trunk and body panels, which can cancel sound in certain freq bands as much as reinforce it. Yeah, if you run 2 W7's you have so much bass that it will fire through everything, so variations in flatness of response are less apparent.

Yes you are very right.
Right now at many frequencies I have great bass, however at a few I have such horrible rattles that it all but cancels out the bass.
I am going to run this setup for a while but one day I want to change it up and port through the rear deck, I think that qwill be much better.
