I think I am going to end up with something pretty similar. The local shop quoted $500 and my car for two days. Does that sound resonable?

Sounds reasonable.but for me it took a 3rd installer to figure out how to keep the navi working with p800prs.

ALeX300 - Thanks for the great tip! I did some testing tonight and it looks like the issue you mentioned is related to the connector with two wires (Brown wire and Yellow wire).

You have any idea how they worked around it?

If this diagram is correct,do I just need to use a jumper on the connector to complete the circuit? Sorry if that is a dumb question, but I would appriciate any input. I don't want to short anything out.

my GS was a 01 with ML(dead amp) so first install shop quoted me $800(!) to "rewire" everything, second shop said it wasn't possible to get navi working with p800 since unpluggin the lower part(cassette and buttons unit) caused everything to go dark. And only 3rd guy did my install "on the side" and it took him a few hours/beers/blunts to figure out how to keep all in check - navi voice commands and all. I had a cassette part rigged up in the trunk with extended wire.

i had p800prs with focals k2p in fronts, kappa 6.1 in rears, re audio sx10 in sealed box, with alpine pdx 100.4 and 600.1 pushing them all along with about 3bulk packs of dyn'xtreme in trunk/doors. damn i miss that clarity.

oh, and i couldn't thank local member Vlad(spyder78) enough, since without him i'd sell the GS about 2 years earlier.

Sorry guys, the suggestions in this thread will work. I overlooked the factory a/c connections located lower down. I presumed the connectors located at the top were for the a/c, but they were for the nav.

Here are pics of the completed installation.

I'm reviving this thread as I have started another system build for my 3rd 2gs that I picked up back in February. A few years ago I made the mistake of selling my black GS400 and with recent changes in life I have found myself back in another GS and this time I got a 430. The car has needed allot little things, but slowly I have gotten back to replacing/updating the audio system. I learned allot in the last two builds and so I thought I would update this thread with a few things I have picked up and document. Please keep in mind this is not an extreme build as this car is only valued $4,000.00 to 5 at the most. I hope this might help some other members that are looking to make some improvements, get the best bang for their buck, and have a solid system.

First off the factory radio was working, but the LCD was shot so was the volume **** so I picked up a Sony XAV-AX100 for $192.00 off ebay. I also ordered the dash kit off amazon for $16:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B016ADMTOU/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B016ADMTOU/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

https://www.sony.com/electronics/in-...yers/xav-ax100

I also used this wiring harness to tap into the speaker wiring back behind the glove box:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00009UHKW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00009UHKW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

While I had have the glove box out I replaced an A/C actuator and the fan motor. Below is a youtube link that will show where the three bolts are that hold the motor in. Mine was still working but making some funny noise. Just a thought for others...

In case anyone was wondering, I used twist wire connectors while my speakers are running off my head unit. I will pop those off and solder the connections after I run new speaker wire to the rear of the car with an aftermarket amplifier. I will also clean up the wiring management before reinstalling the glove-box.

I replaced my door speakers with Morel Maximo 6.5" components:
https://www.crutchfield.com/p_210MAX...-Maximo-6.html

I have installed several series of the Morel speakers and this base model is a great value for the sound quality. I installed them using some PVC adapters specific for our cars:
http://www.car-speaker-adapters.com/items.php?id=SAK002

Along with these foam sound rings that direct the sound waves in-front and behind the speakers.

I ordered this 4 gauge amp kit:
https://www.sonicelectronix.com/item...Power-Kit.html

I would have used a 0 gauge kit as soniceletronix sells them starting at $59, but I felt it wasn't a value to my build. I also didn't want to fight that big power wire though the firewall.

Also using this matrix I felt safe with this choice:

Recommended Cable Size by Power and Distance
Total RMS
Power (watts) Distance
4 feet 8 feet 12 feet 16 feet 20 feet
100 10 gauge 10 gauge 8 gauge 8 gauge 4 gauge
200 10 gauge 8 gauge 8 gauge 4 gauge 4 gauge
400 8 gauge 8 gauge 4 gauge 4 gauge 4 gauge
600 8 gauge 4 gauge 4 gauge 4 gauge 4 gauge
800 4 gauge 4 gauge 4 gauge 2 gauge 2 gauge
1000 4 gauge 4 gauge 2 gauge 2 gauge 2 gauge
1400 4 gauge 2 gauge 2 gauge 2 gauge 2 gauge

I ordered a box from ConceptEnclosures and I was very happy with their work. They were quick, packaging was fantastic, and they even reduced the air-space for the 12" I wanted to run. Visit them on ebay if interested...posting pics.

The sub is a SKAR VD12

It's not the best pic, but it gives you some idea of what usable space is left also allowing no problem access to the spare tire.

Can anyone tell what type of Reciever is this?. And where in Southern California (Los angels) that I could get it done at?. Thxs Ken
