I've got the stock Pioneer/premier system. (No Nak, no Nav).

For sound quality, and DIY install, what can I do for about $100-200 in terms of sound quality and a little extra bass wouldn't hurt.

However, I'd rather have better total sound than just the bass.
My experience is limited to switching out speakers, so the easier the better.

Specific brands and size, along with approx. retail (street)price recommendations greatly appreciated.


Been following the threads about the subwoofer, and will not do that alone.

Also, great counterpoints by Percy. It's good to have someone point out both sides of the story.

Goods: please don't take this personal in any way... But you are driving a Lexus! If your not happy with the stock sound system that you have, it's going to cost more than a $100-200 to do anything. You might be able to get some new speaker wire and cables for that price. In all seriousness, the (average) set of door speakers will run about $250 a set. If you decide to change out the stock sub with something aftermarket, expect to pay around $150-300. Anyway, let me get to the point. The stock audio system is a decent system. If you want better than that, you're gonna have to break the piggy bank. Maybe Percy or others might have some better ideas but looking at your budget, it looks pretty slim...

I was just seeing if someone knew of some great cheap upgrade.
Even if it's just a pair of front speakers. I guess that's what I was thinking to myself.

I've done wiring for my subwoofer back in the day for my civic, but my priorities are a little different now. So no big dollar purchases unfortunately on "optional" items.

In addition to what BabaBooey suggested, there are many reasonably priced speakers that will outperform the stock speakers, which is not too hard to do at all. The only problem is that if you get larger diameter speakers you'll have to make new baffles, assuming you can't use the stock enclosures. The $$$ and the work required escalates quickly. You may be able to get front speakers that swap out directly, and a subwoofer that will also swap out directly, but then you'll have to take your back seats and deck out. Watch out for spending too little money and winding up with a system that is worse than the stock one you're replacing....

 

You'll get the biggest bang for the buck by spending all your budget on replacing the front speakers only. These are the ones that define the sound quality. Changing these will make more difference than anything else you could do for the money.

It will make quite a big difference and you will still have the option of upgrading the rears or the sub at a later stage should you wish to do so.
