Subwoofer Box Install Question
I have two 12" JL Audio subs with a Phoenix Gold amp which I'm thinking about installing in my 1999 GS400. My friend is going to build a sealed box very similiar to the attached picture. My question is how complicated is the install. I dont want to remove any carpet, panels or the headunit. Also, if I want to only install the amp without the subs, can this be done simply by replacing the stock amp. If anyone has experience, any advice would be great. Thanks.
What kind of amp are you going to be installing? 4 ch, 2 ch? I'm assuming that if your adding a couple subs that you have a 2 channel, and your only going to be able to run that to the subs, nothing else. You don't need to remove the head unit, but you will have to remove the glove box, rear sear, trunk lining, and door sill trim(s) to get the wiring to the rear. Not very difficult if you have a decent amount of audio wiring knowledge, and some time.
I just did a write up on how to remove the upper portion of the rear seat, because it is somewhat tricky.

I had just amplified the factory sub, but last week I upgraded that also.
