iPhone & BlueTooth: Only pause/play capability?

iPhone & BlueTooth: Only pause/play capability?
I've paired an iPhone 3GS (iOS v4) with a 2010 HS250h stereo via BlueTooth, and find that only "play" and "pause" buttons appear on the car (on navigation system screen) to control the iPod function of the iPhone. According to the car's instruction manual, the audio system theoretically supports "back"/"forward" buttons (to skip to previous/next song), song name display, etc., *if* supported by the external mp3 player. I have trouble believing v4 of the iPhone SW doesn't support basic functions over bluetooth like skipping to the next song. Has anyone found a way to access such functions?

Yes that is a known issue with an iPhone.
Current iPhone/iPod - Audio/Video Remote Control Profile (AVRCP) is limited, belive only at ver 1.3 which supports only stop, play, pause.
I'm sure apple will catch up with the versioning of AVRCP, meanwhile there is an APP called JayBird BluTrax! which provides a workaround for the issue you are having.

Actualy, this APP is meant for a specific HW in mind...
The APP that should provide the workaround is "Bluetooth Helper" !!!
