Default Metra to release dash kit for sc 92-00

Have heard some things floating around about a dash kit for sc300/400 so decided to give them a call today, im the lead installer at bestbuy so they gave me all the details.

They will be coming out with a single din version and a double din version dash kit for the sc the part numbers are going to be 95-8157(1din) 99-8157(2din), from what there development department said they will have both unique curves on the dash kit one being at the top where it meets the climate control and one at the bottom that sticks out to meet the ash tray. Will be texture and paint matched to the sc console, no cheap ABS feel here!

I have been keeping in contact with there sales/development department helping in any way i can, also have offered to send pics of my "prototype" or even send it to them hoping i get mine back and a free sample. currently to install a sc radio using a trim bezel or pocket u need to re drill mounting holes on the factory brackets, from my understanding they will be providing new molded brackets that also hold the climate control and radio so you dont have to redrill holes to get a double din to sit flush.

There is not a set release date but like what ppl have been saying on in the audio section it will not be this month(december) they have a prototype but has not gone into production, they will be showcasing it at Sema in january and should be available a short time after that. Metra will be keeping in touch with me with any info/support/changes to be made. There is not set price but your average dash kit is $20-$50 bucks retail and $4-$18 at cost. When i get more info maybe one of the vendors here will be willing to setup a group buy for ppl to buy these at cost.

If you have any questions feel free to pm me or email me at Jason.Burgo@bestbuy.com

Here is the press release from Metra:
Metra Announces Dash Kits for Lexus Series
Tuesday, 18 November 2008
Last Updated Tuesday, 18 November 2008
The near perfection and popularity of the Lexus SC 300 and SC 400 series is legendary.

Referred to as “the reliable standout” of the classic luxury coupes, the first generation of this “dream
machine” line (1992-2000) can now be further improved with Metra Electronics’ 95-8157 and 99-8157
sound system upgrade dash kits.

The dash kits allow the installation of virtually any type of mobile entertainment system. The 95-8157 is designed for
mounting double-DIN radios, and the 99-8157 kit is for mounting single-DIN radios.

Both kits are painted a matte-black finish to match the original equipment in the dash, and custom molded brackets are
used for multiple applications and rigidity.

As with all Metra Electronics’ dash kits, both of the 8157s include all the necessary hardware and a
comprehensive instruction manual with step-by-step disassembly and assembly directions for a complete installation.

The 95-8157 and 99-8157 dash kits should be used with Metra's 70-8112 wiring harnesses.

These kits complete the existing line for all early model Lexus vehicles. Metra now offers both DIN and DDIN for all
Lexus models ranging from 1990-2005.

For pricing and additional information, contact Metra Electronics toll-free: 800-221-0932, or visit www.metraonline.com .

Definitely looking forward to that. The one the place I got my stereo is cheap as hell and pisses me off. I'll be one of the buyers when it comes out.

I can't wait for this to come out. I've been wanting to change out the system in my SC because the stock cd changer sucks, but I've been too lazy to fabricate something. I'm glad to hear I won't have to now.

Any chance we can get a pic of the product prior to SEMA?

Also, is Best Buy a good place to go to install a nav system on our cars? I don't have any personal grudge against Best Buy, but I didn't think the big retail shops would know how to work with our older cars.
