What do you guys recommend to replace the ES sub? I was thinking the 8" JL free-air. Does anyone know how much power the stock amp has. This is for a 2001 ES with the Pioneer system.

Thumbs up JL

Dunbar - The JL 8IB4 is a good choice for a drop-in replacement & may provide U with a small improvement. However, I recall seeing that the sub is only getting about 40 watts so I'd add an amp to really make it a major improvement. The 8" JL will handle 75 watts rms & about double that peak so a small 100-200 watt amp dedicated to the sub would be a nice choice. Don't bother putting more power on that factory sub as it won't help - the woofer is marginal in terms of build quality & magnet size. If U really want to get an improvement, use a pair of 8W-3's or 10W-3's in a sealed enclosure with about a 400 watt amp on them but then U give up trunk space. Good luck with whatever ya choose!
