Default Unplug or Remove Antenna?

I just bought my SC400, and as it is right now I can't even turn the radio on without the whole antenna falling out, with a long serrated plastic wire hanging out scratching the back quarter-panel.

Is there a way to just unplug the antenna so I can at least listen to a CD.

I'm tempted to just cut the long plastic wire, but I don't want to thwart any future plans to put a new antenna in there.

This is just temporary until I can make an appointment to put a new one in there. What should I do?

I've used the search feature, but all I can find is what kind of replacement antenna people recommend. Thanks!

Remove the trunk lining on the drivers side and you should see the antenna assembly. You'll see some wires that are plugged together. Just disconnect it and the antenna will stop moving.

Well I couldn't get the serrated plastic wire wound back into the slot, so I just cut the thing off. Now I don't have an antenna, but I'm getting a new one in a couple days anyway.

Surprisingly the radio reception isn't all that bad either, LOL!

I'd rather want to find a way to plug it in.. Why would you need a moving one anyway?

power antenna masts are like $11 on ebay. trouble is they are sort of hard to replace without completely removing plastic gear cable out of the original motor drive (note gear direction) . Once that is done, turn on stereo, wait for motor to cycle, then jam the new cable down into the old hole and turn OFF the stereo. The motor should start sucking the new one down into the motor. make sure the antenna mast is seated before it sucks it down completely. you can either just follow it down, or extend it quickly to seat it and let it retract completely. If it turns out that the antenna is backwards in its extension (goes up when you turn it off) you can get it to where its down, and then pull the power harness. Then you turn off stereo, reattach harness and turn stereo on again. It should now be back in sync.
