Default Front Speaker Cutting Out

The speaker(s) in the front passenger door completely cut out intermittantly, and other times distort and yet other times sound fine. Has anyone else had this issue? If so, does anyone have a suggested fix? I'd like to think it is as easy as replacing the speaker, but since it sounds fine sometimes, I worry that it is a wiring issue. Thanks. I have 2001 gs300

This may be a silly question, but what is the best way to tell?

Well since its intermittantly, its tougher to diagnose. I guess you can try removing the door panel and check out the speaker and connector.

This will reveal the level of my incompetance, but I tried removing the door panel tonight, and quickly realized I was in over my head. I am concerned that I am going to do some serious damage. Thanks for your suggestions. I guess at this point I'll just take it to a professional.
