Default Removing Stock SUB from a GS

Can someone help me figure out how to remove the stock SUB in a GS. I have a 12" Kicker Comp free-air sub and was deciding if I should replace that where the old sub is or should I put it in a box? I know that if I use the box, it would still sound better with the hollow opening from the old sub. What ya think?

you'll need to make a bigger opening for a 12" sub if you plan to put the 12" in place of the OEM 10". Our rear deck sucks in terms of rigidy. I woudln't even bother with it. Been there done that, I went back to a box setup.

trust me bro, i was in the same situation you are in now.
i got my kicker c10(also free-air) and took out the stock sub and put one kicker c10 in its place. it really did not sound that much better than stock to me.it did get tighter than stock but did not have that thump(not neccessarily loud thump)but nice smooth bass even at low volume. so i took it out and put two kicker c10s in a box and placed it in that little "sub-box area" in the trunk made available by Lexus
the bass is much tighter and smooth.
if you don't need the inner trunk space, get a box. i experimented this and i am happy with the box.
good luck whichever way you go.

I agree. The problem with infinite baffle install, especially if you're running a single 10" or 12" is that many people are looking for that thump. That thump happens to come from the midbass region (~70-120hz). An IB setup is generally regarded as a very large sealed box, at least 4x the VAS of the recommended sealed box to be considered IB. When you through a sub in this setup, the top end roll-off starts sooner than you would like, resulting in a roll-off right before the ~80hz region. You can comphensate for this buy running additional drivers or increasing the output via EQ (you might run into mechanical distortion).

Just go with a box

1. Remove lower rear seat section by pulling up on both sides until they pop. Pull it forward to loosen it from the back section.
2. Remove 4 lower nuts and 2 behind the headrests. Back section can now be pulled forward or removed totally.
3. Pry the covers off the both sides of the rear pillars. Pry off the 4 black self locking tabs on the front of the rear deck.
4. Remove rear deck lid. Move rubber covering out of the way to expose the bolts hold sub. Remove bolts, cut wiring off sub and remove.
