No more cutting the factory wires

That is a clean installation you have there!
SO THERE IS NO KNOWN WAY TO KEEP THE FACTORY AMP? JUST BY COLOR CODES ALONE AND ETC TO FEED ONLY WHAT THE AMP NEEDS?

ANYONE HAVE A "SCHEMATIC" OF THOSE REAR RADIO PLUGS (PRE AMP)>?

So this isn't plug n play the aftermarket hu right? He wired the speaker, battery, acc, ground etc to the aftermarket harness?

So are speakers powered through headunit, in this case?
(sorry, not an audio guy)

Best to just bypass the amp like he has done. Take it from someone who knows (explanation below)...

What he has done is taken the factory amp out of the equation.
How it works: Low-level inputs go from factory HU to the amp. From the amp they become amplified (duh) and go the speakers from there. What the amp is doing is essentially what is already built-in(to) almost every aftermarket radio that is out today. Factory radio output is about 5-10w. Amplifier output is about 50w give or take some... And, an aftermarket radio puts out 50w. So... unplug the wires from the factory HU that are going into the amp. Find the harness that has speaker wires going to the speakers (usually larger size wire) and just hook up your normal speaker wire coming from the new aftermarket HU directly to the wires. No harm done!

Default Solution for Aftermarket HU byPass of Stock Amp

I'm a new Lexus owner and truly love this car. I can't wait to mod the heck out of it. The past couple of days, I've been banging my head against the wall, trying to figure out this damn bypass/bass problem. My conditions were:
a) not bypassing a perfectly working stock amp
b) save money, and
c) keep the Bass!!
Well, the solution I found actually was very easy and right in the front of my eyes the whole time. If your HU is going to serve as an Amp itself, why not just buy an HU that supports 4.1 and bypass it anyways. The costs are the exact same. I spent $269 on a 6.5inch touch screen DVD/Nav/Audio/etc...etc... Building a harness is pretty simple, plus you can then re-sell your stock amp on eBay and pick up a couple bucks for the cost of the HU. I found one going for $65.

I know this doesn't help the existing owners of a non-base supported HU, but maybe to some new-commers.

I'll get my ride pics up here soon and you'll be hearing from me much more! Great forum!

Later!

^because it requires two. read his write up.

I actually just did this today and i got to say this write up helped me alot. It took a little longer then i planned but, worked once everything was hooked up on the first try. Saved me alot of time and after finding writeups with the wrong info, this one was the life saver. plus no cutting of the stock harness except the rear radio wire ones like in your write up. the only question i have is why couldnt you just you the power, acc, form the harness?

thanks again tho!
