I am gonna put 2, 12" audiobahn alum12 in my trunk with a box my buddy made me to exact air space. I am gonna run them off a 2300 watt amp that I got. Does this sound like it could be a loud setup? And would it make my lights go dim when the bass hits?
i agree with da battery idea, capacitors (in my installs) have done little to nothing. are you going to be running a true 2300 watts (off what amp), cause those woofers only come in 6 ohm dvc, which would give you a final impedence of 1.5 ohms (which im guessing you'll be doing off an audiobahn a2300hcx?), but at that impedence you'll be gettin somewhere around 1800 watts (supposed), and cranking about 180 amps at full tilt (not a class d amp, only a/b). just be ready for that surge.
When I had my system in Civic, caps made whole lot of difference (no more dimming lights). The rule of the thumb is that you use 1 cap to every 1000 watts. So with 1800 you would want 2.
Well, my viewpoint on batteries versus capacitors varies from spyke & epk's but that's OK!!
A secondary battery ( yes, I have one dedicated to the system ) gives U more power capacity when the car's not running but only adds more load on the alternator the rest of the time. Additional batteries are great for SPL cars though. An clarification to Retro's rule of thumb is one farad per 1000 watts & err on the high side, as he recommended. Dollar for dollar, some of the multi-farad caps like the Alumipro C.A.P. ( 15 farads ) are the best buys & won't leave your amp lacking for power. Another option is the Jacob's Accuvolt step-up regulator ( also cleans up the system of noise ). http://www.jacobselectronics.com/pro...o/caraudio.htm

Yeah, Gene has explained that better then I did and although caps are a very common fix, its worth it. Since Lexus has 100 AMP stock alternator (at least mine does) there is more then enough power to have a few thouthands clean watts going through your system.
well, not sure if this helps any but ive seen caps do most for those systems with smaller alts and not "too extreme" power. ie, various friends' 4 banger hondas (known for small ats) and under 1k watts. but when it comes to real power on a decent alt, ive seen the gains from having a cap very nominal. i tried using a phoenix gold power core (15f cap) when i was running 2k watts (100amp alt), and it didnt help as much as adding another optima. just my 2 cents.
