I've tried 100, 200 and 300 wpc rms and 300 is adequate. Wouldn't try any less though as it seems if the controller takes 1/2 the power to counteract the cone movement. Maxes out at 113db for the DF12sc and around 110db for the DF10sc. Not SPL killers but SQ champs. Hard to describe the sound but at first they sound like they're crossed over really low (50hz) but then you just realize that there's extremely little 2nd and 3rd harmonic distortions going on. Cross over a vel at 100hz and you get 100 hz. Try that with any other sub and you'll get 200hz and above. Harmonics that are uncontrolled, unlike the controlled Velodyne.

Default Recommended AMPS...DO NOT USE ZAPCO WITH VELODYNE.

Retro,

They're single voice coils. The 300 watts RMS value is just their spec. The Mc I'm using is pumping more like 375 watts rms for the 300 watt channels. Conservative rating on Mc's part.

Inside of the Velodyne manual (page 17) it states compatible amps. The NON COMPATIBLE ones are as follows...

MTX

Soundstream

ZAPCO

This is becuase they either have subsonic filters or they can't go down to 10hz in terms of frequency response. Straight from Velodyne.

I gotta call them and ask about ARCaudio amps. So far I've been liking them more then Zapco. Only Makintoch is as good but its another kind of sound category so I can't directly compare. If they are 300RMS I would take 2 of them if the deal comes through.

Could you gimmi a link to the specs for the subs pls?

Retro,

Try this link.

http://www.theautophile.com/flash/products/DF12sc.html

If you need other info, let me know. I have both manuals (user and installation) for the DF12sc.

Also, make sure the amps you're looking at has frequency response down to 10hz.

Retro,

ARC audio amps looks good, no subsonic filters. Their parametric EQ is an "antique" though. Variable resistors for adjustments? Also, no variable frequency selection? Bah!

Thx a lot for the info Percy!

I am seriously considering Velodyne subs now. Since I can still get the full refund for the IDMAX, I can as well pay more and get a couple of Velos. Keeping my fingers crossed for the deal to come through.

Default bad news

Ok guys, I got some bad news.... sorry to get everyone's hopes up but my supplier just sold the last 2 12" velo's two days ago and he doesn't have any 10's either ... He thought that he had more in stock but his computer was incorrect. I know it sucks, I didn't even get ahold of one myself. I guess it was too good to be true. Also have any of you guys hear of the Phase Linear Aliante sub? I found some info on it on www.ampmanaudio.com looks pretty interesting for us lexus owners with a gas tank in the way of high performance subs in the rear deck.

I was eyeing the Phase Linear subs because I couldn't get the Vels.....I emailed them for prices and they said to hold on for a month because there will be a huge discount coming (the Aliante12 retails for 620 and the 12SI retails for 900)....It's been a month and still no news yet...Give them a mail...they respond really quickly.

OK so if there is any chance we are back to thinking about a group buy and see Vels reaction.
