When the door is locked/unlocked the car beeps as is susposed to...however it is really faint and sometimes I don't hear it and have to double check....I know on some models there is a volume adjustment for the keyless beep. Does the 97' SC400 have the adjustment?

Sounds like your remote battery is dying. Drop by a dealer and ask them to put in a new battery, for free! seriously.
