Default Home sub into car?

i have a M&K VX-7 8 inch subwoofer at home not being used and i was wondering if i can hook it up to my 97 right now by just disconnecting the sub wires and hooking it up to the sub and just have a power inverter to power the sub will this work?

Interesting idea. I'm sure the guys at the Lexus A/V forum will be much obliged to give their feedback on this home-to-car audio conversion

I don't think it will. Your home sub should be a 6ohm speaker. car audio speakers are 4ohm. You would need multiple speakers wired in series or parallel to bring your resistance down. At least that's what I believe will happen.

Any stereo guru's here with a more solid answer than mine?

i don't know much about speakers but right now i only have 2 wires hooked up to the sub just (+) and (-) and it's working fine right now hits really hard. and i checked out the sub it's rated at 50 watts rms so i probably won't need a big power inverter

It will work, you will get sound out of it. I don't know how loud it will be. And what do you mean by power inverter? Amplifier? If it is rated at 50watts rms, don't throw 200+ watts at it unles you don't want to keep it very long.
