2001 LS430 Ultra Mobile Phone Integration
Howdy all!
I understand that I should be able to dial telephone numbers from my Nav system, I guess it's only with a dual mode phone (Which I think no longer exists). I read a few old posts, but is there a way to intergate a telephone into the car (2001 LS430) or is it as lost a cause as an upgraded Lexus Link?

I doubt if it is practical to integrate an aftermarket phone into your Nav. The question has come up lots of times on this and other forums and I have not seen anyone yet respond with success. But since your car was prewired for a Lexus phone you can probably connect a phone car kit, including one for a Bluetooth phone, so that it mutes your audio system when a call is made or received. We have Nokia CARK-91 kits in both our 2000 LS and 1998 Camry and I have connected both to mute the audio system.
Here is a link to a doc I prepared on how installed the kit in our 00 LS - it is a 1/2 meg. Word document. The 2000 LS has a six pin connector under the rear of the center console on the drivers side and I only had to stick the mute wire in the front center terminal and secure it with a wire tie. I could have also picked up power and ground from the same connector if I had known it was there when I first installed the phone kit. There was even a coax cable under the rear of the console for the phone antenna imprinted on the inside of the rear window. I don't know if the 2001 LS430 has these connectors or the antenna. As often as this question comes up, I wish someone would say one way or another.
No, our kits are not as integrated as OEM. But besides muting the audio, our Nokia tri-mode (GSM, TDMA, Analog) phones automatically answer and hang up, hold 750 names in the address book and SIM card, have 10 speed dials, 10 voice dials, send and receive e-mail, and we can update the address books from our PC's though infrared connections and even sync with Outlook, Lotus Notes, my Dell Axim handheld and or Palm PDA. Even has a 2nd handset for rear or front passengers so they don't bother me while they are on the phone. Not OEM but still way cool.
