Default Speaker Upgrade

Hi, I have an 91 LS400 with the stock pionner system. I would like to upgrade all the speakers and the amp. Can I do that and keep the stock radio? Thanks.

Unlikely as most of the Lexus systems need the amp. You can get away with upgrading the speakers and some custom work to fit larger ones in, but as for taking out the amp and running it off of head unit, that's kinda questionable.

I'd rather just change out the head unit and the works.

What are your system goals?

I think he meant he wanted to swap out the stock amp with an aftermarket one. This is what I am also planning to do on my sc300 with the Pioneer system.

How much power do you think an aftermarket amp would have to have to drive the 4 spears, 2 tweeters and the sub (I'm assuming it drives the sub also in the Pioneer setup, and that there is no seperate mono sub amp unlike the 5-channel Nak amps)

if the ls400 has p623 to p626 radio(the id number which can be found on the cassette flap door on the faceplate)then the 6 door speakers come from the internal amp in the radio. the sub amp is mounted to the left of the gas tank behind the rear trunk wall paneling.. it is not possible to substutute an aftermarket amp to a internal amp radio. . that also is true of the sc300 radios from 1992 radio p1600 that dont have a cd button. no 4 channel external amp just a 1 channel external subamp inn the right quarterpanel. . if the 92 sc300 came with cd changer button radio(p6800) then the amp is 4 channel under the cd changer and 1 channel subamp mounted by the sub...................................................................................... in either case the best upgrade is to install the appropiate lexus nakamichi system rather than aftermarket. it keeps both cars with the best origianal equipment available when produced and both the 91 ls400 and the 92 sc are sure to be collectors items. the collectors will all want nakamichi systems which was the best oem system ever put in a factory production car. but of course that is each owners choice.
