Default sony BlueTooth hands free car kit

Just wanted to let you guys know:

I just purchased a Sony Ericsson HCB-30 Bluetooth car kit. Installed it last night and it works like a charm. I can vouch for the t-mobile t39 cell phone which I paired it up with.

As soon as I get in the car and start it, its automatically links to the car kit. Mutes the radio when it rings, didn't play with the voice dialing feature too much. But im sure it works. I'm still trying to find a good spot for the remote unit, but other then that no complaints yet..

Looks good. Where did you install it and how stealth is the install?

I did the install myself, it was easy cause I had a motorolla car kit installed before so all the wires were already found including the mute music feature. All connections are at the passanger kickpanels. other then the little remote which I double sided tape by the ashtray and the mic near the rear view mirror its completly invisible.

kabrera,
Which year and model Lexus do you have and where is the mute wire connected to the cars wiring harness? This has come up quite a few times on this and other formums and it would be great to record this information here for others to use in the future. I spent a ridiculous amount of time studying wiring diagrams and asking around before I found two audio system mute points on my 00 LS - one in the console and one in the trunk - and I'm guessing that there are other mute points on the head unit or amplifier if one could identify which wire on which plug is the mute.
Thanks!

kabrera,
is your kit interfaced with a stock lexus head unit, if so which one. an retailer told me that the auto mute and sound coming out of your cars speakers won't work on lexus and bmw vehicles. please provide specific information on your car.

cheers

kabrera,

Very nice photos and instructions. I'm sure that this will help others. I love having the radio auto mute, the phone auto answer, and then auto hang up after an incoming call without ever having to move a finger or hold a handset to my ear. I can't imagine the factory phone setup being any better - and we can dial while driving compared to the latest Lexus phones!

Can someone help me with the mute lead on my 98 GS4.

I recently bought the Sony bluetooth car kit w/advanced mute and need some help with the install.

Thanks

My suggestion on finding a mute point point is to look under the rear of your center console to see if you have connections for the Lexus fixed and Portable Plus phones. My 00 LS has two connectors at the rear of the console: 1) a female connector (I don't remember how many pins), and 2) a male connector with six pins. On my 00 LS, all I had to do was strip 1/4 inch insulation from my Nokia phone kit's mute wire, jam it into the front center terminal of the male connector and secure the mute wire with a wire tie.

If you do have the male connector, first use a cheap 12 volt grounded test light to probe the pins while the radio is on. Some of the pins are "hot" and will light up the test light. The radio will mute when you probe the correct pin with the test light.

There are probably lots of other places where you can find a mute point including picking up a mute point like kabrera did. I also found a mute point in the phone harness in the trunk of my LS on a connector that was meant to plug into the Lexus phone transceiver. On the 2000 LS the wiring diagram seemed to indicate that a mute point could be also be found either on the head unit or the amp depending on whether the car has a Nakamichi or the standard/Navigation system.

Please let us know what you find out!
