Default Proposed Audio Modifications: Please Critique

Well I'm taking the next step of my audio project and looking into a in dash monitor/cd player, in dash eq, and cd changer.

I was looking at alpine for the in dash monitor, but I didn't like they're aesthetics.

Here's what I propose:

Pioneer AVH-P6400CD

Display
Screen Size/Aspect Ratio 6.5 inch/16.9
AGLR (Anti-Glare, Low Reflection Coated Screen)
Motorized Display Angle Adjustment
Dimmer Control Auto
Independent Back-Up Camera Input Automatic Switching Capability
5 Selectable Viewing Modes
Receiver Features
MOSFET50 (50W x 4 Channel Power)
Hi-Volt Preouts 3 pair (Front/Rear & Sub or Non fader) (4V)
EQ Switches 5 Factory, 2 User Presets (EEQ Performance Chip)
Equalizer 3-Band Parametric
Super tuner IIl
IP-Bus System Control
XM Satellite Ready
RGB Input (26 Pin) for optional Navigation System (AVIC 80DVD)
A/V - Bus Input For use with TV Tuner GEX-P6400TV
Composite A/V Input yes
Composite A/V Output yes
Detachable Face Security
CD Playback CD/CD/CD-R/RW
SFEQ Performance Chip Front/Rear Bass and Treble

Then adding to customibility the Pioneer DEQ-9200

Now, THIS is fine tuning. The DEQ-9200 DSP audio processor is a powerful tool for customizing how you want music to sound in your vehicle. It features a DSP audio processor with Auto EQ for a huge variety of sound preferences, and Legato Link conversion for the purest sound possible. A multi-color EL display, extra-capacity battery, and detachable face security (with case provided) are additional features.

Features

3-Band Parametric Equalizer
6 Factory Presets (Flat/Rock/Pop/Vocal/Jazz/Soft)
4 User Presets
Nuance Control
Auto-EQ - Auto Frequency Response Calibration System
3 Curves Available (Dynamic/Natural/Mild)
Omni-Direction

Then a Pioneer CD Changer.

I would use my xbox for DVD input and gaming for now.

How does this sound audio guru's?

edit:
Also, where can I find a quality dash kit for my 98 GS and a radio harness?

First thing I ask everybody...what are your system goals?

The wiring harness (if you have a pioneer system/stock) that can be used is an '87 and up Toyota harness. You'll have to rewire a couple of pins to make it work, but the shell connectors are the same.

Faceplate can be purchased at autotoys.com if I remember correctly. I do believe it's a Metra part, but I forgot the number. Someone on the board has it cheaper. "Doublewhoosh", one of the members, sells these - that's if the old brain cells remember it right.

Legato Link is just a marketing term...doesn't result in the "purest" possible sound, though it does make it sound warmer, despite the marketing hype. I have a Pioneer Premier PDR99 (home) which has the Legato Link and it's not bad, but not nearly as good as my SACD Sony SCD-1. The SCD-1 is a 5,000 dollar player - incredible sound. Modified, it sounds better than a Linn CD12 or the Krell KPS25, both of which are 20,000 dollar units.

3 band parametric...that's not enough bands! I'd recommend at least 6 band parametric or a 31 band "standard" 1/3rd octave eq. Parametrics are more powerful and flexible, but with only 3 bands, you're bound to run out.

My basic system goals are good sound quality and good bass response with the ability to tune how my system sounds. What equalizer would you pick over the pioneer?

Best EQ that I've seen so far is in the Alpine F#1 Status, but that's part of a larger package. Very expensive at 8 grand. Phoenix Gold makes a 30 band 1/3rd octave eq that's pretty good, but my favorite so far has got to be the McIntosh MEQ452 with the MEN450 power supply. 6 band parametrics and you can get lost in the tuning! For some reason, the older Alpine parametrics sounded questionable due to the internal parts / processing they were using. Very muddy. There's lots of eq's out there...!

If i had unlimited money, alpine is what I would choose. I want just a in-dash cd player with no built in dvd because i have an xbox to use as a dvd player. Alpines products with these specifications are quite ugly. Pioneer is the best looking and sounds good.

Also, I looked at autotoys and i need a dash kit that will fit both the equalizer and the headunit one above the other, and it seems all of the ones on autotoys have a pocket, is there someplace I can get a double dash plate?

I don't think you'll find a "double" din kit, I've only seen the ones with the CD pocket built in (like the Metra one). You might have to have it custom made. Custom Car Stereo down on SW Frwy does some excellent work.

i dont believe that they make one. you will have to go to an install shop and have them make one for you. btw, just because ur xbox has a dvd player, doesnt mean u dont need one indash. it is a lot easier to change dvds if the dvd player is in front of you...otherwise it is kinda a pain to locate ur xbox, and change the dvd...and probably not to safe while driving

eclipse is coming out with 3 double-din head units and kenwood is coming out with 1. I'm pretty sure other brands will have one coming out also.

The reason I can't have a built in DVD player is beacause my dad wont let me. I will be using my xbox to get around him by mounting it in the trunk. When are those eclipse units coming out?

edit: I'm thinking about just forgetting the pioneer for now and waiting for those eclipse units to come out, does anyone have any idea when they will be coming out?

I used eclipse(s) units for a while and love the reliability. Not as flashy as other model, but it does the job.

Which part of Texas are you from? I had mine installed in Austin.
