Sounds like your amp is going into protection. It could be either to low of a load (what ohm are the W3's wired at?) or your not getting enough power to the amp. What guage wire are you using? It should be 4ga at a minimum along with the same size for ground.

Probably the load as was mentioned above. If there was not evough power the thing would just clip for a whole, overheat and then shut off. Rewiring should do the trick.

I would suggest making a 0 gauge ground as well. It's definately not part of your problem, but the ground wire is just as important as the power

If the amp is thermaling (thermal shutdown), then heavier wiring will not help. If that is the case, it is trying to produce more current than its design will allow, usually because you've presented too low of an impedance to the amp's output transistors. The only thing that will solve this is rewiring the subs to provide a higher total equivalent impedance. See JL's website for sub configurations if you need help on how to rewire to establish a higher impedance, or check back here when you get the voice coil impedance numbers....

I may be wrong but I think four subs on 1 output creates a 1ohm load.

1-1 = 4ohm
2-1 = 2ohm
3-1 = 2ohm
4-1 = 1ohm

Is that right?

Not quite. It depends on how all of the voice coils are interconnected, series or parallel, or a combination of both. If you assume they're all parallel and 4 ohms nominal, then your numbers for 1, 2 and 4 are right, but when you have 3, the resultant value is 1.33 ohms, which is basically (2) 4-ohm woofs (=2 ohms) in parallel with another 4 ohms.

Thanks for that clarification. What's the between wiring parallel and in series? doe sit affect the sound quality?Polarity? Ohms?
