Depreciation and Resale Value?
A few weeks back I bought my LC and I was initially looking to lease. The sales person had given me a depreciation estimate depending on how long I lease and it was 3 years worth $47k and for 4 years it was $37k, both at 15k miles/year. That seems kind of steep given that this is a semi-exotic. It is hard to accept that this vehicle will depreciate down to pretty much nothing in about 10 years. The new DB11 is very similar and it will never depreciate that much!
Do you agree that the LC will depreciate like a regular car or will it be more like the depreciation of a Porsche 911? |
Regular car, nothing “semi-exotic” about it. My IS 350 was 12 years old, and traded it for 20% of what I paid new (pretty happy with that). Plus I’m sure I could have sold it for 25-30% private sale if I was bothered to do so. I expect LC to follow the same curve. No one can predict 10 years. Gas burning cars could be outlawed by then, and be worthless.

^^^^Not so sure:uh: My '08 ISF is worth about $25K today. That's about 40% of what I paid for it 10 years ago.

Try selling your LC, I ordered a Corvette ZR1 and was surprised at the offers I got on my LC 500 with 1250 miles on it in perfect condition.

Do you mean surprised in a good way as in you got offered more than you thought or a bad way and much less?
when the fuel pump recall came out. |
I thought it would probably be that way.
Not sure if it is the same in the UK as they are a very rare car here. I have had mine for almost a year and I haven't seen another one! |
Do you guys think the LC will be selling for 40-45K in 3 years with
with 25K -30K in mileage? Might have to buy one then in 3 years :) Love the design and everything about the car but still have a hard time paying 125K for a Lexus. No offense to Lexus as I owned 3 Lexus but paying over a 100K for an LC now only to see the car depreciate to 40K in 3 years is a lot of bills. I guess if you can eait and do not need to be the first to own one might really be the way to go |
Only bad examples/branded title cars will be below $50k in 3 years Imo and doubt they'll go much lower. For a clean titled LC500 with around 50k miles, $60k will be reasonable to pay. Still would be a lot of car for that money in 3 years. Will take a while for other vehicles to catch up to the interior of the LC. Lexus vehicles ages SUPER WELL, as long as they are properly maintained.

FWIW the current residual value set by Lexus is at 48% on a 3 year lease.

You all know leasing is the MOST EXPENSIVE way to finance a vehicle, right? Leasing is just another way to finace with closer to an effective 10%-15% interest rate. Run the figures and you will see. There is a reason that car companies push leasing so enthusiastically. They make more money off of the lease than the actual profit on the vehicle. Kinda like credit cards . . . . . . .
I guess it is a way for people that can't really afford the vehicle to feel like they can . . . . . . . |
