they legally cant sell over MSRP up here in canada, but this is just how riduculious the situation is for canadians:
Friend of mine got into an accident and her elantra got written off. She needs a car to work her 2 jobs to pay her insane vancouver mortgage. She tried to buy a corolla and was told to wait 4-5 MONTHS for a Corolla LE. All inbound corolla's were spoken for and the earliest (if the deal cancels) was in August. She asked all the dealers in the area (there are 5 toyota dealers in this city) and they all said the same thing. NO INVENTORY... on a corolla..... LE.
Other popular models are taking even longer. Sienna, for example, is a 2 year waitlist. She might be forced to take a Hyundai Kona as thats the only thing within her budget and they still have inventory. Yeah no doubt they have inventory, those things are garbage.
If I were in here situation I would take the Kona at MSRP now. Personally I wouldn't call the Kona garbage, it will do for point A to B transportation. beggar can't be chooser (not insulting your friend in any way), but it is what it is at the current situation.
We ended up putting her in a Mazda 3 AWD. A little bit cheaper than the Kona, but at least it drives quite decently and ill take Mazda reliability over Hyundai's. She's taking delivery next week.

The Mazda 3 is a perfectly capable car with AWD, just a little lower in ground clearance. Well executed interior design and well use of quality materials. This to me a even better choice than the Kona.
