Default Official LC Tint Thread (merged pictures and questions thread)

LC Members,

Please share pictures of your LC with aftermarket window tint to help others make decisions on what looks best! We'll move some posts here to get it started so some of the text might not make sequential sense.

When you share your pictures, please list:
- % tint
- color of your interior (does make a big difference in how dark tint appears)
- type of tint if you know it (ceramic, smoke, dyed, metalized, etc.)
- brand of tint if you know it (3M, Solarguard, Llumar, etc.)

I have the same combination of Liquid Platinum and Rioja Red. I recently had my vehicle ceramic coated and window tinted (30% sides and back, and 70% front windshield). The tinting provides me with 99% UV protection, 98% IR protection, and 90% Solar Energy Absorbance, which is greatly needed here in Florida. Texas has very similar weather as Florida so you can definitely benefit from UV and IR protection as well. Attached are a side and front quarter profile of the tinting. I don’t think it takes anything away from the exterior and interior color combination.

I think I have found what I consider the best of both worlds. Upon recommendation from the people that installed my PPF and ceramic coating I installed 3M Crystalline Series window film. I love it as it allows others to see in, my old eyes to see out (especially at night) and a dramatic reduction in interior temperature. It's been on my LC now for 3 years and holding up perfectly. I've attached a 'normal daytime' photo showing the amount of tint.

From the 3M website - 3M™ Automotive Window Film Crystalline Series
  • Light tint rejects up to 60% of solar energy and up to 97% of heat-producing infrared rays for the ultimate in comfort.
  • Designed to enhance your view by allowing visible light into your vehicle while keeping heat out, so you can see clearly and safely.
  • Non-metallized window film lets you stay connected with mobile devices, GPS or satellite radio reception without interference.
  • Blocks up to 99% of ultraviolet (UV) light to provide a total Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of 1000 for you and your passengers.

It is a 3M CR40 (one step down from their darkest) without tint on the windshield.

Front side windows: ceramic 35. Read side windows and rear window: ceramic 20. Don’t know which brand - was installed by dealer’s contractor.

I'm planning to get Maxxpro nano ceramic tint (whatever that means lol) 35% on sides and 70% on windshield. Thoughts?

Has anyone experienced any glare from front windshield tint? .
Just tinted the whole windshield few days ago and traffic light as well as opposite direction headlights are really glared on my end.
However, my side window tints are fine.

I had front window tint on my AMG and I experienced the same glares that you describe. I paid to have it removed and all was right again. I was attributing it to my 'older' eyes but I've heard this from a few people. Probably a combination of things causing the glare (eyesight, slope of windshield, seating height, etc.).

I'll never have it on a front window again, besides, my vehicles are garaged when not in use so I don't feel there is much of a benefit.

Did you or anyone else who had the front windshield tinted continue to experience this? Did you remove it or get used to it? Any issues with any of the functionality/HUD etc?
