Default Problem Opening Fuel Filler Cap

I don’t know if anyone else has had this issue but I have been having problems opening the fuel filler cap.

The last couple of times I have filled up the switch to open the flap has failed to work.

I finally got it to open by banging it a few times and almost prising it open.

This is the latest in a growing list of problems that I am having with the car. I have not had a Lexus before and I am very disappointed with the build quality and the technology on the car that doesn’t work properly.

I couldn't get the cap to stay in place on the door when fueling. I've never heard of this problem before.

I've had this issue on many cars - but only during icing or freezing conditions. Otherwise it can only be the spring clip inside the flap/door or the cable that connects to the release pin needs tensioning... both of which should be easy adjustments by the dealer and covered under warranty.

Good point. Is there a diagram of where to place the cap that will make it stay put?

There's a lousy pic in the manual on page 177. It takes a few seconds to figure it out, but the cap holder design works fine.

BTW - there's a procedure for opening a problematic fuel door on page 354.

Thanks for the heads up. There is also a slot for the metal key to open the trunk behind the center rear seat cover.

My experience is, if you take your time and are deliberate with the fuel cap, the fuel door receptacle hold the cap very well. Fuel door opening/spring has never been an issue for me.

Uchujin,

Many thanks. The diagram in the manual was enough to see where the cap belongs while fueling. Thanks for the response and the diagram from the manual.

Cheers,
