Default Key not detetected

Got a weird message yesterday. Got in the car...key in pocket..started it up..

All systems go.

The the "Key Not Detected" red flag came up...went away in a couple seconds. Car kept running..

This is the first and only time this has happened (at least when I had the key on me). What do you think? Fob battery getting low is my guess.

Mine still does that even with a new battery. Doesn't bother me much though but it always makes me double check if I have my keys.

get a new battery for key fob....you can go quite a distance like this but eventually your battery will die in keyfob. When it gets really low you will have to pull out your keyfob and place it right on start button it will detect it and you can start it....when it becomes real dead you wont be able to lock and unlock your doors with keyfob you will have to......manually perform this function. then to unlock your door you will have to use the built in Key thats in your keyfob to pry off doorhandle and unlock door..pretty fun ....Ive been there. This is all in your manual that came with your car.

For real? I was wondering about how that would work. Also, doesn't the shifter lock so you can't put it in gear if the key isn't detected? I thought I had heard that at one point but I could be wrong about that.

Thanks for the replies...I have replaced the battery (some time ago..over a year I think). Its the only time this has happened...and the weird part is the message came up after the car was running....and yeah, I know how to pry the cover off and do the manual unlock.thanks though.

At the time there was a hot looking lady in the passenger seat...maybe her 'hotness' caused it...

Once the car is started you could throw the fob out the window and drive hundreds of miles away with no problem long as you didn't shut the engine off... once it's running "key not detected" doesn't do anything except throw the warning up.

I'd say low fob battery, but could also be if you keep the fob in the same pocket as your cell phone or anything like that the signal could've been interfered with a bit.... (this also drains the battery faster from what I've read)

Might be because of that too. I always keep my iPhone in the same pocket as my keys. Going to try that out tonight.

This started happening to me after i installed the VLED's inside my car. There is a whole thread on the key fob not working 100% of the time due to the VLED's. Not too sure if this is the problem you have but thought you should know.
