Default IS 350 getting in the 4.9's?

Forgive my ignorance, as I am new to the forum and I have been bouncing back and forth between the IS F and GS 350 forums...but I recently jumped on Youtube and I am seeing alot of alleged "non-modded" IS 350's racing Infinitis and even a Corvette. Some of the times posted for the 350 is 4.9 from 0-60.
Is this real..are some of you getting these times for a Stock IS 350...is this really possible?

It's real.

Here's a reputable source, Road and Track, getting 0 to 60 in 4.9 in 90 degree weather:

http://archive.roadandtrack.com/asse...car_dp.pdf.pdf

Another reputable source, Car and Driver, measured 0 to 60 in 5.1 for the IS 350 which isn't sub 5 but it's in the same ball park:

http://www.caranddriver.com/features...s_is350_page_8

The idea is to show you that multiple reputable 3rd party unbiased sources are getting similar numbers.

Owners have gotten as low as 0 to 60 in 4.7 (shkv40) bone stock:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dj-ZvmRivzg

With very light modifications (maybe 10-20 whp at most) people have measured 0 to 60 as low as 4.6 or 4.5 (juice14g)

Here's 0 to 60 in 4.6: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7-Ht39T4Ms

Others are in related videos. You get the whole range all the way down to 4.5 (up to 4.9) so the spread is pretty "safe"

I will say one thing - in order to get these times you'll need to turn your traction control off. The traction control is very intrusive in this car, and if you have even the slightest slip of traction it will intrude and hurt your performance ever so slightly.

So having traction control off + having good, sticky tires is the key to getting these times.

I'd also like to direct you to dragtimes numbers for the IS 350:

http://www.dragtimes.com/Lexus--IS350-Drag-Racing.html

The top 5 1/4 mile times for the IS 350 are in the low to mid 13 second range which is very consistent with a 0 to 60 sub 5. When road and track measured their 0 to 60 sub 5 they posted a quarter mile time of 13.5 seconds.

The range is 13.2xx - 13.5xx for bone stock IS 350s (denoted by a # sign next to the times)

Here are some more sources that list 0 to 60 times for the IS 350, although they are arguably less "reputable" than Road and Track or Car and Drive -

http://www.torquestats.com/ : IS 350 0 to 60 in 4.9 seconds

http://www.zeroto60times.com/ : 2007 Lexus IS 350 0-60 mph 4.8 Quarter mile 13.3

I am absolutely stunned by that...I take it the IS F and GS 350 is getting better numbers as well than the brochures advertise?

Yea its real, I's done high 4's many many times in the winter.
4.9 is actually an average time for winter conditions.
During the summer 4.9 is a good time, but nothing impossible to get.

That's correct.

For comparison, I'll give you Road and Track's figures for the IS-F so you can directly compare performance of the IS 350 and IS-F by the same source.

Road and Track:

IS-F 0 to 60 : 4.2 seconds
1/4 mile: 12.6 @ 113.8 MPH
skidpad lateral acceleration: .93g

As you can see the IS-F is indeed much faster than than the IS 350, as one would expect (and as one would hope so at $25,000 more!)

It's called an automotive performance meter. http://www.gtechpro.com is a popular choice. If you have an iPhone or iPod touch, http://www.bunsentech.com/projects/dynolicious/ is a very inexpensive alternative.

According to Road and Track, the Dynolicious iPhone app is reasonably accurate: http://www.bunsentech.com/2009/dynol...oad-and-track/

Were you using Dynolicious, or one of the freebee apps? Did you make sure that the iphone was secured properly per the instructions?

Wow, the charger srt8's traction control must be really intrusive as well and clearly hurts its performance a lot. Of course they weren't going for optimal times, merely repeatability, but it's interesting nonetheless.

srt8's are definitely much faster than the results shown in that link.

I hate to be the one to bring back an old thread but I am looking at buying an IS350 and have seen some conflicting results and was hoping someone could tell me what is going on...

http://archive.roadandtrack.com/asse...car_dp.pdf.pdf
*Great Article As Well* 2007 IS350 @ 4.9 sec 0-60

vs

http://archive.roadandtrack.com/asse...data_panel.pdf
2006 IS350 @ 6.0 sec 0-60

?!?! WTF Is this all due to the VDIM? Obviously you can shut that off with the brake move, but does the traction control really intrude that much above 30mph?

Really need some explanation or help, because I don't want to buy an 06' if the 07' is really a full second faster to sixty because of technical advancements.

Thanks for any help
