Default Day 62 : Xpel

Amy,

I'll bet when I was your age I had modded cars, but not at the Lexus level. You're not doing bad to have an IS at a young age. Keep on setting goals for your future and by the time you're my age, I'm sure you'll be doing just fine.

OK a few more mods before the BIG debut.

A custom template was made to make an Xpel protective cover for the bumper. www.xpel.com

Default Day 62 : Xpel cont'd

The template was used to trace and cut out the Xpel using a razor blade.

Default Day 62 : Xpel cont'd

Here's what the completed Xpel sheet looked like before being installed. You pretty much can't see it on the car from about 3 to 4 feet away, so I'll save the final pic for when the completed car is shown.

Default Day 63 - 65 Skid Plate

Well now that the Xpel is installed, I still needed protection from steep driveways.

I will pass on to my hubby to explain the details of fabricating a skid plate:

1. The bracket material was cut out from 1/4 inch thick steel.

2. The completed brackets also include a hole to accomodate hooking the car down to a flatbed or trailer.

3. The plate was fitted to the tow hook where it will be welded in place. This plate when welded, will be strong enough to lift the car with a floor jack.

4. The completed plate is welded in place and will be painted silver to prevent rust.

5. A delrin plastic "shoe" is cut out which will be attched to the skid plate bracket.

6. The shoe is bolted in place. This delrin material is very strong and has a slippery, hard surface that will not wear down quickly.

7. The completed skid plate is tested on our driveway. I have a similarly designed skid plate on my car (which is an inch lower than the IS) and it has worked flawlessly for over two years without incident or damage to the front spoiler.

Ok I can't take it anymore! I am just going to tell you all what the secret mod is:

The Sofa

Yes - seriously. She told me that the sofa actually weighed much less than the Lexus IS back seat so she is going to swap them. She also mentioned that she is going to have it re-done in carbon fiber leather which will surely be lighter and help the IS get to GS400 speeds.

I think it is a great mod and can't wait to sit in the back seat!

Well after much hype (not intentionally by me) it is finally time to reveal the secret mod. This is the first prototype of these side mirror blinkers. I don't know very many details about these mirrors, but it sounds like you need to ship them your mirrors in order to have the mod done. Atleast that's what happened to me. The company that is making them has not told me when the availability date will be or the price. I guess it will all depend on how popular they think this item will be.

Thanks to Jawnthen for creating this image.

YES, i am the first to see the mod who does not know what it is...it's not the SOFA?? haha.

yeah, that's pretty hot. i like it. lexus should of made that standard as well. i am certainly interested depending on price and how long it would take for them to complete the job. not sure how long i can go without having my side mirror.

that custom skid plate is great. i am always so scared of scrapping the bottom of the spoiler on bumps and dips.
