Changing radiator, what is this?

When I pulled this line off the thermostat housing, this little metal sleeve was sitting inside the housing. It is substantially smaller than the housing connection to the rubber hose and very easily slides into and out of hole. Any ideas on wtf it is?

It looks like a locating dowel pin if the car doesn't leak and run fine leave it out . Or open her up and have a look.

It was the inner metal sleeve on the outlet port of the coolant overflow tank. They prevent the plastic from cracking when the hoses are clamped.
