Like others, I'm pretty sure i have an cracked exhaust manifold and can hear the ticking. I daily my ISF and have a JoeZ exhaust and love how tame it sounds when in the burbs, and then roaring when I step into it and don't want to lose that and get any louder. My question is, is there an aftermarket header that doesn't scream and can be quiet with gains or am I asking the impossible?

No question about it go aftermarket headers. The oem design was a huge bottleneck on these cars you will love the added power.

What he said^^^.
It's not even that loud when cruising either...just when you get on it, much like an 'exhaust only' setup.

To the OP. Look at the PPE EL Header:

I’d love to do headers one of these days, however, I would definitely be in the camp of those getting high flow cats. I can’t imagine having a gas smell or adding even more noise to the car.. With the Joe Z, I think the sound of the car is awesome and would not want to become even more obtrusive than this. Headers, then, become a very expensive proposition having to do cats, headers, intake and tune to do it right.

You dont need tune with headers, I am running high flow cats on bola exhaust and ppe headers with no tune this setup as been fantastic quiet while cruising and beast while racing. Like jeckel and Hyde.

Like most have mentioned, aftermarket is the way to go. Nothing preventing it happening again with OEM ones in due time.

Cant recall reading anything about cracked headers when it comes to Sikky, PPE etc.

I fitted PPE's about 5 months ago. It does take getting use to it but i recall the first time the workshop started it up, i thought not bad, touch louder but the average person wouldnt notice the difference (exhaust to exhaust and PPE). Then i drove off and thought holy crap. Ok its a given, on WOT its definitely louder, youd have to be deaf to not hear the difference. Even my wife (who knows nothing about cars, said what have you done now when i drove sedately with her in it after getting them installed). I of course said its nothing, just sport mode lol. Dont get me wrong, its a much nicer, exotic raspy note, i love it but its louder.

Cruising around, not a big difference but i know even going through the lower gears a bit quicker than normal, even at about 3000 RPM, you can easily scare the average pedestrian haha

Performance wise its a no brainer. Bang for your buck is a different story given how much it costs but gains are definite

I was considering it given advice and what i read prior but to be honest, i dont find it that bad at all. My wifes Diesel puts off a stronger smell on some cold startups and thats 100% stock and a few years old

I am catless and only smell it now and then and only for about 20 seconds or so so never pursued it.
