That's awesome. I'm sending this picture to my friend with an E92 M3 lol

Are you rebuilding with stock pistons its just RR Racing are doing some interesting engine mods at the moment, and more pics of the engine out share the rebuild, 99% of people on here will never do this cheers and Kudos to you.

CP forged 12.3:1
BC sportsman rods
Possibly P&P heads once we get the valves & seats cleaned up and sealing correctly.
Dropped everything off yesterday, so I won't hear back till next week sometime.

FYI make sure the new pistons have the indentation for the direct injection. If you already have them, can you post pictures?

Definitely, the pistons are custom made to order, the specialist I spoke with over the phone was familiar with the engine, and the orders that have been secured for them.
Build time is 3-6 weeks Once I get my bore sizes.
As for DI I don't recall there being a specific dimple/cavity/provision for DI. Something like that on a piston would hot-spot and have poor effects on the flame front IMO.
IIRC it's just the dish or clearance for the injector.

Edit** now I see what dish you're talking about .Sorry lol long week and fighting a cold .

Before making assumptions about anything related to the piston design, you might want to read this. There's a whole lot more to this than meets the eye.

Definitely, hence my correction I made earlier.
We'd be foolish to assume it's a tumultuous "squirt of gas in a cup" theory.

Interesting article, however! I'll have to grab a few to see what technology is breaking the mold.

**UPDATE**

Machine shop called today and has the block and heads torn down.
He said everything looks great and cylinder 8 can be honed.
Will be getting a complete valve job to make sure everything is centered. Also the guides are not bent either. So huge plus there!
Furthermore he said the bowl of the intake can be opened up some that he would address for a P&P.
All my parts showed up at Lexus today as well.
Only waiting on pistons and rods now!

Can you get some pics of the ports before they get modded? I am curious what they look like in the flesh. Also, curious if you notice any core shift in the seats relative to the ports. Japanese engines suffer this more often than they should.

I am asking because I do port work and want to have a quick look at what to expect should I need to pull mine apart. It won't go back together without at least a clean up and some valve work kind of like these pics of a 2JZ-GE head I did.

Factory seat cut. Final seat cut is not pictured and won't be.

The valves are not final. I narrowed the faces after I polished them. I don't share those pics.

This head ended up in an 8 second car.

Next time I'm there I'll snap a few pictures but I didn't notice any shift like you mentioned.
Too bad you're not closer, I could pay you to do the port work .

What's up with the pocket (recession) around the guides? It doesn't look conducive to flow or guide support.

I've ported many Ford and Chevy heads in the past and owned valve grinder as well all the tools for guide install, reaming, and seat grinding to a choosen angle. What would have been fun was a flow bench to see net gains.
When you think about flow at surface level where the air is stagnant vs the next layers up it gets interesting as to the type of finish left in the intake vs exhaust for example. Not to mention shape or attributes for mixing...

OP have fun with your build! And ya, share any pictures please. Hey did you notice does the block have skirt oilers?

I worked with high vacuum systems doing radiological gas analysis. I learned a lot about gas molecules and what they like to do and don't like to do. My stuff is unorthodox, but it works.
