Question Custom Exhaust Pipes - What would you do

So I finally received my Greddy Titanium Exhaust....it's a work of art but realized that I won't be road legal in the UK with these fitted as I'm also running PPE Headers, so I need to install Cats somewhere.

Instead of mutilating the beautiful titanium exhaust I'll have to sacrifice the pipes connected to the headers and build a custom stainless steel replica of the pipes below..

KJH I really hope you don't mind me using your pic for this demonstration, if you do please let me know and I'll change the pic.

The question I have is how would you go about installing the cats.

- Option one would be to make a replica of the pipes with resonators and install the cats in the area highlighted in Yellow below.

- Option two would be to have no resonators and simply install the cats in the same location as the resonators circled in red.

So Do I get the exhaust shop to install resonators and Cats, or simply just cats in the same location of the resonators below?

Any help would be appreciated.

If you want more sound I would just do cats where the resonators are. If decibel level is an issue where you are I would do both cats and the resonator.
You're definitely better off making a custom center pipe like this than touching your Greddy.

Your cats run much hotter than the rest of the exhaust system, especially if you're supercharged. Accordingly, locate them as far away from the transmission as possible.

Will you be using metallic or ceramic cats? And, have you been able to source ones compatible with the greddy's 70 mm tube dia.?

I'm not sure how the loud the exhaust is in its original form, from youtube videos it seems similar to the Joe-Z which wasn't bad when I had Joe-Z exhaust installed.

I guess I'll only know once everything is installed.

Good point on the transmission note, I bought the GESI Cats (http://vibrantperformance.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=1527_1326&products_id=2070) from the research they should be able to withstand the abuse, but I believe they are metallic (not 100% sure).

They're 2.5" so around 63.5mm...I don't think it'll be a problem with Greddy's 70mm. The rest of the tube system will be kept within the same specs as the Greddy system.

Did you ever look into getting the titanium cats from Japan, the same ones NOVEL or ICODE is using on their titanium exhaust systems?

No I had no idea the cats were also titanium....do you think I can source these separately and how would they do against the GESI cats in terms of abuse?

Also I doubt I can install titanium cats because the unit that will be built will be out of stainless steel....don't think I can weld stainless steel onto titanium....unless you meant getting a whole unit in titanium which now you've brought into my head .

So if you can find me a place that sells titanium cats that can withstand abuse then this will be a route I can look into.

The whole unit is titanium as you cannot weld SS to titanium.
I am not sure where or if you can get those, but contacting ICODE or NOVEL is a start.

The Greddy Ti coupled with headers is more on the quite side compared to the Joe-Z.

I am also wanting to incorporate cats into my system because the smell with the windows down is bad!

^ What exhaust and header combo are you running?

When I had the Joe-Z installed they were beautiful in terms of sound, didn't really feel they were too loud but I did want to install Cats but never got around to it.

Kinda sucks you pay top dollar for the Ti just to replace the mid pipe. At this point I’d say look into applicable cats. I just don’t even wanna guess what those cost. Yikes.

My only gripe with the Greddy Ti, is the inability to add cats for a reasonable cost, and the fact they have a choke point right at the header. SS would allow adding cats AND remove that choke point with 2.5” piping like the rest of the systems offered.
