Default First time at dragstrip with the F! A few questions...

Made a trip to the 1/4 mile drag strip 11-5-17. Was my first time ever on a drag strip so didn't really know what to expect, lol.
First pass down, I ran a 13.1 at 106 mph. That was sport mode on, automatic shifting. Got about 8 passes down the track and the 5th or 6th run I achieved a 12.8 et and 108.6 mph trap speed! I'm on stock '12 wheels and tires, Joe Z exhaust, hos intake tube, aFe air filter. 60ft was 2.09.
I am actually happy with the et of 12.8, but I feel like the trap speed should have been 112-114 mph.
Question is, why is my et decent but the mph kinda off? Car felt GREAT...ran excellent imo. I did NOT remove anything out of the car (spare tire was still in, etc), I did not burn out as I didn't think it would help anything (traction wasn't an issue for me, and I DID NOT idle up for the launch. I was at 500 rpm (whatever idle is) and just stomped on her right on/slightly before green.
How much of a difference, if any would my et/trap speed be if I removed the spare tire (don't see myself removing anything more than that) and took off at maybe 1,200-1,500 rpm? I'd like to hit the strip again before I get headers on the car. Thanks in advance!
Also, incase anyone wants to know, I ran against a '17 Ford Explorer 2-3 times and of course beat it badly, ran with a '15 or '16 SRT8 Jeep Grand Cherokee which was stock....I beat it by 3-4 car length (he ran a 13.3 at 101.8 mph).
Also, as noted on my time slip, I ran a FBO '16 Chevy SS/Holden Commodore and he beat me with a 12.2 et at 112 mph. And the last race was with a modded Hellcat running full drag slicks. He ran a 10.7 @ 127 mph.
Lmk what I should do to get my mph up! Thanks!

The lighter the better, 1/4 gas tank , launching around 2700 to 3000 rpm . Check ur tires pressure , maybe do psi rear is slightly less than front

Was your traction fully off?

i have a similar set up with Joe Z and AEF drop in only and was hitting just shy of 114mph with a 12.6xx runs and 60ft times very close to yours. I added a bit of E85 ahead of the track and did a number of top gear pulls to ensure my kclv values were up ahead of time, however, I don’t know if this actually did anything.

I’m heading back to the track on Saturday and it looks like a good day at 58 degrees. Last time I always brake torqued at launch, but it seems like this is a less preferred method than just getting on the throttle. I need to get my 60ft time down to 2 flat at least and then should be able to break into the 12.5s is my goal.

Thanks for the replies. NO, I did not turn traction control off at all. Guessing that's good for a mph or 2 trap speed.....the brake torquing and removing spare tire also good for a mph or 2?! And are you guys fully turning traction control off (long press) or just short press?
I just thought the time was decent compared to the mph. And I run nothing but 93 in the car here on the east coast.

V - what track? Elevation / air density plays a big role. I agree with the other suggestions except launch rpm. Fastest posted times for ISF are all off idle. Lots of good threads in the dyno / drag time thread regarding best techniques. Glad you got out to the track. I know you will be back

Sport mode on, MANUAL MODE not automatic, traction control fully (long press the button) off (careful when launching), DO NOT power launch, launch from idle as you were doing. You'll get used to shifting to get the best time and et.

Elevation of Fayetteville motor speedway is 167 ft. The DA was perfect from what I looked up that day (plugged it into the online calculator and pretty much made no difference in my et/trap speed.
And yes, my best times did come from Manual mode. Only ran Auto 1 time and was my worse (13.0 or 13.1) time. All the rest of my times were consistently at 12.8.
I believe not turning traction off may be my bigger probably.
Question: when manufacturers post 1/4 mile times, etc, do they have the spare tire/jack, etc in the vehicle or is it normally out?!? Just curious as that just popped in my head, lol.
And after going to the track, I've started reading the drag times thread. I read a little each night before bed and I've gotten about 1/4 way thru that thread, lol. Long ways to go.

12.8 is respectable for a mostly stock car. If you didnt Id recommend manual shifting. Im an tired 08 with over 110k on the odometer but Im fully built NA with some weight removal. My best on street tires is 12.2/116.X

IMO, if you get your 60' time down, your trap speed will go up slightly, but your ET will go down, too. One tenth at the bottom is two up top. The track is fun, tho. Sounds like you had fun.

Yes sir! I most definitely did! So much so that I made another trip back to the track this past Sunday!!
Traction was a big issue this time around....BUT, I did beat my best time from the first time at the track AND bested my previous best mph (thanks to you guys)!!
Best run last time around was:
2.0 60 ft
.38 reaction
8.4 1/8th
85 mph 1/8th
12.8 1/4
108.6 mph 1/4

My 3rd run down the track this time around yielded:
2.1 60ft
.77 reaction
8.3 1/8th
88 mph 1/8th
12.7 1/4
110 mph

Was very happy to see the 12.7 and 110 mph compared to my first trip to the track. Weather conditions were maybe 7-10 degrees cooler. Didn't really check DA or anything. But this 3rd run, the car was EXACTLY like it was the previous day I ran....spare tire in, jack/tools in, manual mode, sport mode on, traction control on.
On my 10th run of the day, traction control still on, manual mode, sport on, TIRE/JACK REMOVED I ran:
2.4 60ft
.72 reaction
8.7 1/8th mile
89.3 mph 1/8th
13.0 1/4
113.1 mph
1/4

Was again, pleased with the trap speed on this 10th run as it was easily the fastest trap I've had but the SLOWEST 60ft! How is this possible?! Couldn't get traction at all. Was getting cooler so figured that was my traction problem.

Anyhow, overall satisfied. Going to move on the new MPSS 4s and go 275 wides in the rear AND getting Sikky v2 headers. Going to see if I can get in the low 12's and trapping 115+ mph trap speed.

Can anyone explain?!

Im car 2124. 2011 All stock except exhaust and upgraded tire sizes 245/275 MPSS. Tank at a 1/4 full (I try get to the drag strip at 3 bars max) Rears set to 28psi Front 34psi. All trunk items removed along with all engine covers, passenger and trunk carpets. Avoid water box, light spin on tires, traction control off (long press), sports mode on, pedal to the metal on last yellow, and manual shift. It takes practice, but you're obviously getting it as your times are improving. Also pop the hood open after every run and remove engine cover if you didn't leave it at home.

Default Consistency

I was wondering if these cars are consistent enough to bracket race. Does anyone have any time slips from a regular test night just curious how much the et varies of the night if you drive the car in the same mode all night. Was wondering is they have a tune available to help the car repeat better while at the track.

I’m auto mode, i don’t see why you couldn’t pull very consistent bracket times. Especially considering there’s nothing hard about mashing the throttle on launch.
