Unhappy Leaking Timing Chain cover

I just took my "2012 93k miles" F in for s suspected valley plate coolant leak and was told the timing chain cover is also leaking oil.
I have looked around and it only seems to be a common thing on the 250 and 350.

Has anyone else had a oil leak pop up on the timing chain cover? If so, did you repair?
Dealer is telling me $2000 to fix it because the motor needs to be removed.
Plus the $1500 to fix the valley plate leak issue!

Right now I am out of warranty and the car is at the dealer.
I have reached out to corporate to see if any assistance can be given to repair it.
Praying for mercy!

Don't know about the timing chain cover repair, but the rate for valley plate leak job here in California is 2200+, so 1500 isn't too bad at all.

This is the first time I've heard of anyone on this forum suffering a timing chain cover leak. Yes, indeed that is a relatively big job. Not sure the engine would absolutely need to come out to do it, but at a minimum, the radiator would have to come out, and it is questionable if there is enough room to remove the harmonic damper with the engine in its normal position.

Looks like I was wrong, the engine is not removed but it is a 10 hour job.
I better never get another leak on this car after this..

I know your pain.
I also had the valley plate leak, followed by a rear main seal leak, then an upper oil pan leak. Luck of the draw I guess.. *high five*

There are no gaskets in this engine. It's sealed with different kinds of RTV sealant. The sealants are made by Three Bond in Japan.

or Hondabond... love that stuff.

that being said. whats the labor rate, 150 an hr? that is nuts high. even here in L.A. i think the dealer rate is 110-115. local shops about 95 to 100... is it including rust time or something?

I also have the valley plate leak and my timing chain cover is leaking. Im not sure what caused the timing cover to leak. I am not too worried about the vally plate leak but as far as the timing chain cover leak any insight would be appreciated. You're the only other F I have seen aside from me who has their timing cover leak....

The valley plate isn't too hard. The timing cover is a beast to do with the engine in the car. I looked at it and decided to wait until I'm ready to drop the engine to address the timing chains, and it was purely because getting to the cover with the engine in the car is a huge PITA compared to having it out of the car.

Several things could cause the timing chain cover leak especially age of these vehicles.

I ended up having the dealer fix the valley plate and the timing chain cover.
At the end of the day due to my customer loyalty Lexus Customer service gave me about a $1500 credit towards the repairs and I had to pay the rest.

Also, keep in mind that was back in 2017 and the ISF I owned was a 2012.
If I were in your shoes and the leak is bad enough to require a fix, I would track down a reputable 3rd party mechanic to do the repair.

I am having the same problem I just purchased my isf not even a month ago with 150,000 miles and it’s having the both of these exact issues … getting charged 4000$ for the timing cover gasket …
