Help with insurance - Adjuster estimate high? Used parts possible?
Hi guys, just got a repair estimate done for my 08 SFP IS-F with 88000 miles, pretty minor (to my opinion) damage was done, and I'm hoping to avoid having the car totaled.
The estimate was valued to just under 11k, which includes new bumper cover, fenders, hood, headlights, paint, and A/C condenser (is a little nicked, but A/C still works, has been working for the last 3 weeks, and tested with my refrigerant sniffer, no leaks) No structural parts were damaged like radiator supports, bumper supports etc. I'm concerned that this may get too close to a total loss decision. To prepare myself in case they declare it a loss, what are my options as far as disputing the repair estimate if it is even possible? Everything included in the estimate are brand new OEM, so items like the headlights are 1.2k each, whereas we know they can be had for around 1k for a good condition used pair, If I have a shop do a more through estimate that eliminates hidden damage, determine if the A/C condenser truly needs to be replaced, and works with me as far as obtaining quality used parts, to result in a substantially lower estimate, is it possible to overturn a total loss decision? Thanks for any help!

Apologies in advance for not being able to truly answer your question on overturning a total loss...there are definitely members here who have professional experience as adjusters/owners who have dealt with this/etc...
I do think it is 100% worthwhile, if told it's totaled and a check will be mailed (or something similar), to push back a bit and see if the insurance company is willing to work with you. I had my first car's subs, box and amps stolen and when I was 18 and was absolutely gutted while checking whether my insurance even covered aftermarket theft, my deductible (which was $1000 and that was a fortune back then to me), etc. Totally discouraged, I still called to double-check what my options were, if any, and to my surprise (still to this day) I was asked what I paid for the stolen items retail, and was mailed a check without even being asked to send receipts. I never assumed that would happen and that was when I learned "If you don't ask for the business, you won't get the business."
Good luck and hope things work out for you!

You have to sign off on their decision, use that as leverage.
even if they total it, explain your affinity for the car and try to work out a deal to where you can buy it back. It may be worth a shot.

good call. I forgot about that. A salvage title vehicle is worth way less.
