And I actually had Lexus re-torque all of them after one failed and broke about a week and a half ago, and 2 more gave way when I replaced my front tires yesterday. Luckily, I bought 4 when I was replacing the first one, and they have since been fixed. I've never experienced a break since I've been using a torque wrench. Very curious. Anyone else experience any lug bolt mishaps?

We're the lug nuts ever put on with an impact gun? I have seen this way too many times where a tech will put them on with one then bust a torque wrench and achieve breakaway on the torque wrench in first pull with the head of the wrench not moving at all. This is wrong!

^^^^Totally agree. Impact wrenches have their place, but on on wheel lug nuts. I won't allow them.

Agreed but not only that, just because they are using a torque wrench doesn't mean they are using it right either. I once saw a guy go around and torque all the lug nuts on a car and then after he was finished he went back over them again torquing each nut almost a quarter turn past proper torqued setting.

The problem is that once you have over torqued a stud past a certain (elastic) point it doesn't matter if you retorque to the correct value. The stud has been stretched and is now damaged goods. It should be replaced.

Ive gone through a bunch but I track the car and take off wheels often. Now I did run a small spacer which make have contributed to it. Do they make a stronger bolt after market?

Arp makes some for the IS300, they are extended length and would with need to be run with open ended lug nuts or shortened to the desired length.

Absolutely. I always bring my own torque wrench to tire places. If they don't agree, I don't buy. Simple as that.

Needless to say, I haven't been turned down.

^^^^ Yes, but if you are not running spacers or open ended lugs nuts you will likely need to have them cut down.

They are m12x1.5 in size. I haven't put them on yet... I am running factory 12 wheels and having a hard time finding extended lug nuts with the mag seat that I like.

Are you sure they are genuine OEM lug bolts? I do seasonal tire/rim change of my family vehicles. I use air tool but torque them using digital torque wrench. I don't recall of any lug bolt breaking in years on our cars, camping trailer, or tow truck. ????

When you say you do air tools, is that to take lug nuts off? There should be no reason to use an air tools to put lug nuts on.

Nuts on or off for sure. I have a set of torque specific color coded socket extensions for the air tool. Tighten nuts little under the spec. torque, then use torque wrench. After about one week's driving I double check and very seldom I have to re-torque them. I have an industrial grade IR compressor running on 220V. I picked it up at an auction pretty cheap. Primary use for this is to blow the sprinkler system before winter sets in.

If bolt is breaking so often, I'd check the geometry of wheel hub and wheel itself. Maybe something is not right putting too much stress on the bolt. Long time ago US
military choppers were crashing all over the place due to rotor failure. Investigation revealed one parts supplier was supplying under spec'd bolt to the military. Then bolts were made by a Japanese outfit. When investigators went to Japan to check them out, the supplier cheapen the spec. to make more profit. It was not the Japanese fault. Since every genuine parts has numbers recorded on their data base. No counterfeit can slip into military logistics. I think the system was called McNamara system.
